collecting photos of the Class of 2018 for our Senior Video. We need your help to ensure that all students and all aspects of life at Langley are presented (sports, performing arts, social, academic, etc.).

Greetings from our newly opened areas of the building! I hope you've heard from your students how nice the new areas are. We are incredibly happy with how the spaces turned out and the students seem to be finding their way. New team locker rooms, concession stand, bathrooms, and labs should be ready to open in early December.
Further sprucing things up, the
PTSA has given us a grant to landscape
the two new courtyards, which will begin in the spring.
On another note, we will have an exciting presentation the night of Wed, Nov 30 in our auditorium. Former NBA star Chris Herren
will join us to
discuss the risks of drug and alcohol use
. Chris's story was chronicled in an ESPN 30 for 30 story, and it is quite compelling. This presentation is funded in conjunction with McLean High School. In connection with the presentation, that morning at 9 am, we will present the results of the most recent Youth Survey at Cooper Middle School. I will explain the trends and the risk factors associated with what the data indicates. Officer Hunter will discuss the legal consequences of providing alcohol to minors, and a teacher from the ATOD (Alcohol,Tobacco and Other Drugs) program will have a display of implements students could be using. This morning meeting will be very informative and lead right into the evening presentation. If you have questions, please contact us.

Please plan to attend the next Principal's Coffee/PTSA meeting on Wed, Nov 30, 9 am at Cooper MS. We will take an in-depth look at the drug and alcohol culture at Langley High School and answer questions like: What are the legal and academic consequences if my child is caught using alcohol or drugs? What is being done at Langley to combat drug and alcohol consumption and what can we as parents do? How do our drug & alcohol issues at Langley compare to those at other area schools? If you have any specific questions on this topic or any school-related topic you'd like addressed, please send them to

That evening, please encourage your student to attend former NBA basketball star Chris Herren's powerful anti-drug presentation at 7:30 pm in the Langley Auditorium. To learn more about Chris, click here. Tickets are free but must be reserved in advanced by clicking here.

PSAT, SAT and
AP) and
ACT tests. Parents interested in learning about the process to request accommodations should attend the

at Langley. This year's theme was "What's Your Story". The Visual Arts category was won by junior Jacquelyn Kim. The Photography category was won by sophomore Collin Keefe. Finally, the Literature category was won by freshman Elissa Jewell.

On Nov 9 & 10 all sophomore students participated in a program entitled: Rising To Meet The Challenge: What's Your Superpower? Students learned how to connect with qualities that embody resilience and empowerment. As we know, teens are often highly reactive during times of stress and difficulty. They learned ways to better navigate challenges with increased strength and focus. Thanks to Minds, Inc. for facilitating these important discussions and to the PTSA for funding the program.

The Capitol Steps are a DC-based troupe of former Congressional staffers who
put the "MOCK" in democracy! They'll be performing their musical satire in the LHS Auditorium on
Sun, Jan 29 at 7 pm. Their latest program,
"What to Expect When You're Electing," is constantly being updated with material from the current election and is hilarious.
Everyone is invited to attend for nonpartisan fun! Tickets are on sale NOW and can be purchased on the order form found
here. Proceeds from the show
support the Class of 2017 All Night Grad Party, a fun-filled and safe event for our graduating seniors. The show is open to the general public, so buy tickets for friends and family!

Only 25 LHS student passes are left to participate in the field trip to the National Museum of African American History & Culture on
Tues, Nov 22. The bus will depart at
9:30 am and will return by
1:30 pm. It is a school day and any student who attends will be responsible for the work missed that day. If your student would like to attend, please submit the completed forms and
payment of $14.00 (payable to Langley High School) to
