Greenway As Economic Catalyst

We know that access to trails is physically healthy, gets us outside, and allows us to spend time away from work (remember to turn the smartphones off!).  In addition,  our research shows that a good, connected trail system can also be a great economic development strategy for communities that becomes an economic catalyst .

Unitil, the New England energy company, asked ADG to consider how one of their regions - the New Hampshire Route 1 corridor communities - could grow their tax base and their local economies while minimizing any negative effects, such as traffic and new demands for municipal services.

Compounding the question was the very divergent perspectives of the  towns when it came to economy development; some "yes", some "no" and some "maybe".

Fortunately, ADG discovered that something strategic
does connect these towns, sixteen miles of trails running up the spine of these Route 1 communities. There is also a compelling vision for connecting New Hampshire's section with 15 other states connecting a trail network for families, tourists, bicyclists, joggers and walkers. This exciting initiative is led by the East Coast Greenway.

Learn more - join  Governor Sununu, Unitil, ADG, East Coast Greenway and local officials, at the  East Coast River Relay event on September 1st at 8:00 am at Prescott Park in Portsmouth, NH.

Stay tuned as we help the New Hampshire section of the Greenway become an economic catalyst for the region and state.

We hope to see you in Portsmouth on September 1st!
