REMINDER: ADULTS NEED VACCINES TOO
The back-to-school season often includes discussions of needed vaccines for children; however, adults need to keep up with their vaccines too.

Vaccines are among the best protections against a number of serious, and sometimes deadly, diseases. Every year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other medical experts update vaccine recommendations for adults based on the latest research and evidence-based science on safety, effectiveness, and patterns of vaccine-preventable diseases.

Making sure our patients are up-to-date on recommended routine immunizations is part of our standard of care and included in every comprehensive annual physical.

In addition, Foxhall I nternists Immunization Clinic also provides travel vaccines for individuals who are planning to go out of the country and require special immunizations.
PSORIASIS AWARENESS MONTH
Psoriasis is a chronic disease. It develops when a person's immune system sends faulty signals that tell skin cells to grow too quickly. New skin cells form in days rather than weeks.  The body does not shed these excess skin cells. The skin cells pile up on the surface of the skin, causing patches of psoriasis to appear.

Approximately 7.5 million people in the United States have psoriasis.Psoriasis occurs in all age groups but is primarily seen in adults. Up to 40 percent of people with psoriasis experience joint inflammation that produces symptoms of arthritis. This condition is called psoriatic arthritis.

More information about psoriasis is available from the National Psoriasis Foundation and from the American Academy of Dermatology.
