"
Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another.
No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us."
- 1 John 4:11-12

From Mrs. Rowley
Mark your calendars for our Catholic Schools Week open house! This will be held on Sunday, January 29 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. Please spread the word about our wonderful school and invite family and friends to join us! A limited amount of tuition assistance is available, thanks to the Diocese of Arlington and St. Ambrose Parish Tuition Angels! During Catholic Schools Week we will also celebrate our community with dedicated days of celebrations: Teacher Appreciation, Student Appreciation, Priest Appreciation, and Family Appreciation. More information will follow. Please note that re-registration for the 2017-2018 school year is coming soon!
This week we began round two of our online testing, Scantron, and this will continue for the next two weeks. Please keep our students in your prayers as they take the tests.
Our dress-down day for Catholic Charities raised $147! Thank you to all who participated, and helped the needy in our own community.

THE CASE FOR BREAKFAST
What Should Your Child Eat?
Any breakfast is better than no breakfast. But try not to have your children eat doughnuts or pastries all the time. They are high in calories, sugar, and fat. They also do not contain the
nutrients a child really needs. And if your child has a doughnut for breakfast he/she will not feel full for long.
Just like with other meals, try to give your child a variety of foods, including:
-
Fruit
-
Vegetables
-
Grains ( make at least half your grains whole grains)
-
Protein (meat, poultry, fish, eggs, dry beans, nuts, and seeds)
-
Dairy products (low-fat or fat-free milk, cheese, and yogurt)
Breakfast Ideas
First, the traditional ones:
-
Eggs
-
French toast, waffles, or pancakes (try wheat or whole-grain varieties)
-
Cold cereal and milk
-
Hot cereal, such as oatmeal or cream of wheat (try some dried fruit or nuts on top)
-
Whole-grain toast, bagel, or English muffin with cheese
-
Yogurt with fruit or nuts

Last week in STEM Club we gained a whole new perspective on the application of STEM with a crime scene STEM day presented by Officers Roberts and O'Leary of Fairfax County Police, Mason District Station in Annandale.
Officer Roberts worked with our 5
th
-8
th
grade and gave them a hands on demonstration of crime scene technology, instrumentation and techniques currently used in the field.
Officer O'Leary provided stations for the kids to investigate fraudulent checks (someone wrote checks out of Mrs. Rowley's account!), finger printing, shoe impressions (someone threw a rock through St. Ambrose church's window and left a muddy footprint!), and bank note recovery.
Officer O'Leary then let everyone take a close inspection of her police cruiser. Needless to say, I think sitting in the back of the police car was the favorite part for most of our younger members!
