A RESPONSE TO CHARLOTTESVILLE
FROM
Bishop Donald Hilliard, Jr., D.Min.
Senior Pastor
Cathedral International

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PERTH AMBOY, NJ - We witnessed on last Friday in Charlottesville, Virginia, one of the worst clashes that we've seen in a long time with the rising of the Alt-Right, the Neo-Nazi Party and the Ku Klux Klan. Heather Heyer died standing up for justice; she is a martyr indeed. Lieutenant H. Jay Cullen and Trooper Berke M. Bates of the Virginia State Police, regrettably also lost their lives on this day when their helicopter crashed as they were aerially surveying this violent demonstration of white nationalist. There is no room in 2017 for hatred, bigotry or discrimination. Despite what some believe, there is no such thing as 'good Nazis!'
We have been no stranger to adversity for "We have come over a way that with tears have been watered."  I want to encourage you to stand fast, to pray without ceasing, and now more than ever, let's build God's Church, let's stay together, let's teach our children.  I add my agreement with the songwriter that "We'll walk hand and hand some day!"
Our Churches must do more than survive!! We need to be a strong loud voice in the community. Politicians need to consult with  Church leaders before they execute their plans!
We remember, we PRAY, we PROTEST, we PREACH\teach, we PETITION, we PARTICIPATE...and we remain FULLY AWAKE!  Speak up and speak often.  I am determined that I will NOT BE SILENT!  What we are seeing now has frightening implications for the future. The attack in Barcelona, Spain yesterday was egregious and troubling. Our heartfelt prayers, care, and concern are with the victims and families. While there seems to be a preponderance of evil rising in this world, we must remember the words of the Old Testament Prophet Micah, "Do good, love mercy, and walk humbly with thy God." (Micah 6:8)
I encourage you in this hour to stretch your faith and strengthen our institutions; especially our Churches.  And The Lord be with you all.  We truly are a great people, we possess great power, and we shall overcome!
