Share the Spirit Grant Program
The Youth Service Bureau was chosen this year as a recipient of the Share the Spirit Grant Program. The program is a partnership between the Bay Area News Group (BANG) and the Contra Costa Crisis Center both located in Walnut Creek. The program’s mission is twofold – it aims to support local nonprofit agencies with assisting low income families during the holiday season, and it also allows the agencies awarded grants and its client population the opportunity to be featured in the BANG newspapers that is distributed across the county.  One of the caregiver’s in the program will be interviewed and a story about their family will be featured in the coming weeks. This year the agency was awarded $5000.00 to provide support services to the Kinship Care Program and the 88 relative caregivers and 152 children that they serve.  The Kinship Program, under the supervision of Program Manager Glenda Roberts, will use the funds to host their enrolled families at their annual Holiday Gala event that will be held on December 16th in our Richmond office.  This event, given each year, celebrates our caregivers and their dedication to the minor children they care for in the absence of their parents.  There will be gifts, refreshments, singalongs and other entertainment and activities.  We are also expecting a surprise visit from Santa Claus himself! We thank the Bay Area News Group and the Contra Costa Crisis Center for considering us and ultimately providing us with this additional support.

A Kinship Christmas
Every year our Kinship program host an annual Christmas party for the Relative Caregivers and their children enrolled in the program. This year 75 families were adopted and 150 children received gift cards, bikes, skateboards, educational games and 55 families received holiday food boxes from various community sponsors.
