It was a buggy video, but it really moved people... and I was moved by how they gave of themselves. Here's what some people did.
Do you want to touch someone's life?  A lot of  lives? If so, join me. Several people did yesterday. Here's what happened.

I went live on Facebook for the first time. It was a buggy video with wifi issues, but it really moved people. (See it here) 

From the windy deck of the MARY A. WHALEN, I talked about PortSide NewYork's new partners... the Stuyvesant High School Environmental Club, the Sea Scout boat SEA DART, Matt Perricone and his ship LOUIS C and PortSide plans for working with them and others in 2017.

I talked about the mariner training programs and boat building for youth and adults that we can do in building space that the NYC EDC promised us for many years, space that we learned is un-leased and have requested. I talked about cultural programs we can do in that space, how we looked forward to being an amenity to the Citiwide ferry stop coming next to us next year, and more. 

People volunteered and donated (you can donate here).

The father of a crew member lost in the sinking of the EL FARO said he'd volunteer. "This is my second chance to ensure that future Mariners have a future in the maritime industry."  A recently retired docking pilot who had docked over 7,500 ships wrote "I would love to volunteer some of my time to this great project."  Barbara Wye, a young woman whose father recently died, donated his three small boats, "I would like to have his memory live on in some way, a Jonathan Wye sailing club, trophy or something."
 
So...if you want to give kids a boat experience, want to train mariners, want to see more PortSide WaterStories cultural programs on and off the MARY WHALEN, join these folks.
