Will AI cost you your job? For many of us, the answer is "yes," though the timing is uncertain. For most of us, however, AI (Artificial Intelligence) will radically change the jobs we do. This was the consensus of one of the most fascinating podcasts we've produced in a long while.

Last week, the Digital Production Buzz devoted its entire show to looking at the role AI plays in our industry today. From automated logging to automated transcripts to automated music, AI is already busy making our jobs easier. While this technology has very obvious benefits, it also has a darker side in lost jobs and radical changes, as Terry Curren's interview made clear.

I'm not saying the world is about to end, rather, that we all need to prepare ourselves for the changes that are coming. As Philip Hodgett's remarked, "The hardest thing for any machine to replicate is creativity. The more we strengthen our creative story-telling skills, the more valuable we become." I also thought Josh Wiggins comments about the power of automated logging were an insightful view of the future.

This Buzz podcast was one of the most interesting and valuable that we've produced this year. I encourage you to listen to it here.

We are in the middle of the summer doldrums. Even companies exhibiting at IBC in September are having a hard time working up the energy to promote themselves. So, while we wait for all the new releases, this week's webinar is one of my favorites: " Ask Larry Anything." This free-wheeling discussion is always fun because of the range of subjects folks are interested in. Registration is always free - sign up here. By the way, if you email your questions, it gives me extra time I to research them.

Thinking of webinars, last week I covered the Lumetri Color panel in Adobe Premiere Pro CC. This was a fun session, because I had the chance to talk about features I haven't covered before. It is now posted to our store and online library.

Just a reminder, we've changed all our webinar pricing, effective Aug. 1. All current webinars are now only $19.97. Webinars more than a year old are $12.99, while webinars more than two years old are $9.99.  Many features in our favorite software haven't changed for several years. We felt reducing our webinar prices would provide a good incentive to examine some of our back-catalog titles.

Finally, I have a product review from a company you've never heard of, tutorials on Apple Compressor and Adobe Premiere, two videos from last week's webinar, and an interesting article from DoddleNEWS on shooting 6K footage with the new Panasonic GH-5.

Only a couple weeks are left till school starts. Time to start working on my lesson plans. We'll chat again next week. In the meantime, edit well.
