AWOL and Parkway Sustainability Seekers Joint Event
Friday, August 18| 6:30pm carpool from church
We will carpool from church to see
An Inconvenient Sequel-Truth to Power at Plaza Frontenac. The movie should provide much to discuss over ice cream afterwards. Please RSVP to either Carmen at  [email protected], 314-330-0813 or Polly Winkelmann at  [email protected], 314-503-4805, so we know how many to expect.
It has been 11 years since former Vice President Al Gore sounded the alarm about climate change with the film,
An Inconvenient Truth.
An Inconvenient Sequel-Truth to Power focuses on confronting climate change as the fundamental political, economic and moral issue of this century. Although much of what was discussed in the earlier film has or is currently enfolding, the sequel strikes an optimistic vein as it portrays the current economic momentum of wind and solar energy.

Worship with Us this Week!
Join us this Sunday morning for our Traditional Worship at 9:30am and/or Informal Worship at 11am when our scriptures are Genesis 45:1-15 (The story of Joseph's reunion with his brothers) and Psalm 133 (celebrating unity) with a sermon entitled Mending. It is amazing - again! - that the lectionary readings (in our 3 year cycle) for tons of Christians across the globe this weekend speak so powerfully to our current context here in the US.

Please read and pray through the scripture passages prior to Sunday... it will enrich you now and your worship experience later.

Join us in welcoming back Janet Spencer, guest organist, at 9:30am.

Alzheimer's Fact
The 2017 St. Louis Walk to End Alzheimer's is September 16th at Scottrade Center. John and I will be walking to represent PUCC as this is the same day as the ALL CHURCH EVENT with the consultant. We will join with members of Temples Shaare Emeth and B'nai Amoona. Alzheimer's doesn't care about religion. It does, however, affect more women than men. Nearly 2/3 of Americans living with Alzheimer's are women. For a woman in her 60's, the risk of developing Alzheimer's is 1 in 6, for Breast Cancer it is 1 in 11. Help us raise money and donate to find a treatment or a cure for Alzheimer's Disease. Make out your check to "The Alzheimer's Association" and we will deliver it for you. More information is on the poster in the gathering space, or contact me, Joyce Ruiz: [email protected] | 314-494-8979

Inspiration
Look out into the universe and contemplate the glory of God. Observe the stars, millions of them, twinkling in the night sky, all with a message of unity, part of the very nature of God. ~Sai Baba

Humor
Walking through the hallways at the middle school where I work, I saw a new substitute teacher standing outside his classroom with his forehead against a locker. I heard him mutter, "How did you get yourself into this?"

Knowing he was assigned to a difficult class, I tried to offer moral support, "Are you okay?" I asked. Can I help?"

He lifted he head and replied, "I'll be fine as soon as I get this kid out of his locker."
