Wilson County Approved to Join Research Triangle Area Foreign Trade Zone
Durham, N.C.  The Research Triangle Area Foreign Trade Zone (#93) is expanding! Wilson County, North Carolina has been approved by the U.S Foreign Trade Zone Board as the 15th county to be covered within the service area of the Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ). "We are pleased to be able to offer this opportunity to our existing industries as well as new businesses considering Wilson County for a new location, "said Jennifer Lantz, Executive Director, Wilson Economic Development Council. "It certainly enhances Wilson's global footprint. Many thanks to the staff at FTZ #93 for their assistance."

The Wilson County Economic Development Council initiated discussion with FTZ #93 Administrator Renee Boyette in the hopes of expanding opportunities for the county's businesses. "This enhancement to the region's foreign trade zone offers new capacity to promote export-import business activity and all-important job growth for the regional labor market," said Tom White, long-term member and current Chairman of the Rates, Tariff and Legal Review Board for FTZ #93.

A foreign trade zone is a designated location in the United States where companies can use special procedures that help encourage U.S activity and value added- in competition with foreign alternatives- by allowing delayed or reduced duty payments on foreign merchandise, as well as other savings. Merchandise in a zone may be assembled, exhibited, cleaned, manipulated, manufactured, mixed, processed, relabeled, repackaged, repaired, salvaged, sampled, stored, tested, displayed and destroyed.

Foreign Trade Zone #93
covers Chatham, Durham, Johnston, Lee, Moore, Orange, Wake, Franklin, Granville, Harnett, Person, Sampson, Vance, Warren, & now Wilson County. Triangle J Council of Governments is the grantee of the zone; assisting new companies & sites through the application process.
