AS WE WELCOME 2017, WE LOOK
BACK AT THE 2016 RDGA SEASON
Clockwise from top left: the RDGA District Championship at Ridgemont CC, the RDGA Match Play Championship at Blue Heron Hills; the RDGA Junior Championships at Clifton Springs CC; the RDGA Women's Open at Brook-Lea CC; and the the inaugural season of the RDGA Foundation's ForeSight Junior Program were just some of the many memorable moments throughout the 2016 RDGA season. Click on the image above to view the 2016 RDGA Year In Review slide show.
The 2016 season was a busy one for the
Rochester District Golf Association
with several familiar champions being crowned, along with many activities, both near and far.
From two-time RDGA Women's Champion Jenna Hoecker
to three-time men's
RDGA District Champion Trevor Sluman
, seven-time RDGA Match Play Champion Jim Scorse and two-time RDGA Mid Am Champion Ken Starkweather, to first-time RDGA winners Maggie Kril (Women's Senior) and Junior Champions Jason Lohwater, Graham Gaenzle, Noah Barravecchia, Lena Kaufman, Kahlan Vanschaffel and Julia Zigrossi - and others in between - 2016 was a memorable year for RDGA golfers.
In other news in 2016, RDGA Course Rating Teams enjoyed another award-winning year; the RDGA Foundation and the RDGA launched a groundbreaking new junior program - ForeSight - with the help of the Monroe County Parks Department and Kless-Myers Management; and the RDGA hosted a second annual "Golf Day" at the Doug Miller Family Sports Center in March. Along the way, the RDGA also supported and conducted several USGA Local Qualifiers as well as the Junior Interdistrict Championship with Buffalo and Syracuse and the Williamson Cup Matches at Bellevue Country Club in Syracuse.
2016 was also a year in which we said goodbye to several familiar faces on the local and national golf scene, including RDGA Foundation founding member John H. Ryan Sr.; former Assistant PGA Pro Frank Radler; long-time superintendent Ed Benoit; New York State golf official Bob Biviano; and former local club owners Victor Colombini and Peg Wohlers - not to mention "The King," Arnold Palmer, who was a friend to golfers everywhere.
As we look ahead to the 2017 season, take a look back at the season that was in 2016.
