CCF Spotlight on...Saval Foods

On
June 13th, Saval Foods President and CEO Paul Saval, thanked generous golfers for their support of the 14th annual Saval Foods CCF Charity Golf Tournament.  The day's activities raised $28,000 for The Children's Cancer Foundation, Inc.(CCF).

About Saval
Since its first tournament, Saval Foods has raised a combined total of more than $200,000 on behalf of CCF. Started in 1932, Saval Foods has grown to be the largest locally-based independent distributor of food and non-food products in the mid-Atlantic area.

The company is now run by the 3rd generation of the Saval family, with active involvement by the fourth.

Why CCF
As a "longtime Baltimorean," Paul was looking for a local charity for Saval Foods to support. Its deli processing subsidiary, Deli Brands of America, the maker of the Saval deli brand, is a supplier to the local supermarket industry, which heavily supported CCF and its mission since CCF's founding in 1983. Because "we were exposed to the good work being done by CCF" and that "nothing touches the heart more than children," Paul decided CCF  would  be the charity of choice for Saval Foods.

Paul knew Saval Foods and its partner businesses shared a strong commitment to civic engagement, and determined that a golf tournament would be the "format by which they can have fun, yet give back to the community through a really important cause in CCF".

Meeting a young cancer patient
At this year's golf tournament, Madelyn Smith and her  parents thanked Saval and their supporters for their commitment to pediatric cancer research. During a summer vacation in 2016, Paul and his family met the Smiths, learned of now 5-year-old Madelyn's battle with cancer, and connected them with CCF. "We are inspired by Madelyn's strength, and are grateful that she is now cancer free, and can celebrate with her family today," said Tasha Museles, CCF's Executive Director.

CCF is grateful to Paul Saval and Saval Foods, as these contributions have allowed CCF to fund years of innovative work from some of the area's most promising pediatric oncology researchers. For more information on Saval Foods, visit their website:  http://savalfoods.com/.

CCF in the Community

We've enjoyed the support of some local businesses lately.  Please contact our office  if you think that there might be an opportunity to partner on an activity.

In June,  Potomac Sprout Company, a small family-run business that provides sprouts to Maryland farmers markets and specialty stores generously donated their entire weekend's sales to CCF! Central Farm Markets, organizer of the Bethesda area markets, volunteered to match the contribution. We are grateful to both!

The Gold Crown Hallmark in the Mall in Columbia approached CCF about working together to promote CCF's mission while asking customers to donate small stuffed toys to area children fighting cancer. CCF plans to distribute the toys to a local hospital this fall.

Colorful Abandon, an outreach program of a local tie-dye studio, invited CCF to join them in a card-making activity for children fighting cancer at Columbia's Festival of the Arts' Lakefest in June. CCF will coordinate with the group to distribute the cards, paired with a tie-dye bandanna, at an area hospital.

CCF is grateful to Horizon Day Camp for hosting Tasha and Lauren in late July. Horizon provides week-long day camps at no cost to Baltimore-area children currently or recently fighting cancer and their siblings.

Please share this newsletter with someone you know- We will need everyone's help to end childhood cancer!
