Guthrie to Host Oklahoma Congress of Mayors On January 20, 2017:  Registration Open To Mayors, Vice Mayors, Councilmembers and Managers!
The Mayors Council of Oklahoma (MCO) and OML will host the seventh annual Congress of Mayors at the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum in Guthrie, OK on Friday, January 20, 2017.  The goal of the Congress is to give municipal leaders a better understanding of the legislative process as well as provide them the opportunity to interact with their colleagues and lawmakers to get a realistic understanding of municipal issues such as transportation /infrastructure, public safety, municipal operations, community and economic development and municipal finance.

Register Today! ONLY Two Workshops Remaining to Satisfy Your New Official Educational Requirement for 2016-2017
Throughout the year OML provides an intensive educational program specifically tailored for newly elected officials as well as experienced officials who want to keep up-to-date on municipal issues.  The New Officials Institute workshop concentrates on topics such as the Open Meeting Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, Municipal Finance, Ethics and much more.  Don't let time slip away before you register.  The next workshops will be in Stillwater on February 11, 2017 and Lawton on March 23, 2017. Alva Hosts Community Leadership Development Session
 The City of Alva and the Alva Chamber of Commerce hosted OML's Community Leadership Development class in Alva on December 8th and 9th. 

Session 5's topic was Cultivating Your Community. Dana Franks with USDA Rural Development talked to the class about community programs and loans available through USDA RD.  Ron Drake presented the afternoon session on the importance of the vision and revitalization of downtown USA. CLD is now accepting applications for host cities for the upcoming Class VI which begins in April. Deadline to apply to participate in the program is Friday, January 20, 2017.  To be considered please fill out this form and return it to Cheryl Adams at  cadams@oml.org.
State's Energy Lobby Gets Schooled in Drones 101 Class at OML
The energy lobby, as well as friends from the utility sector, were called into class today by the state Aeronautics Commission to decode Part 107 rules recently released by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). OML hosted the event at their headquarters and Director of Government Relations/Membership Services, Missy Dean said, "This is a great way for a state agency to approach a statutory change or new law. Our cities and towns will be affected by drone legislation, and we need to be at the table. We were pleased to host the event."   More Information
