A Message from Mrs. Gioe

The past few weeks have been filled with beginnings for all of us. Within the MBS community, we have had new students in grades 1-8 begin MBS, we have had Kindergarten students begin their first day of “real” school, we have had teachers begin using new resources, and all of us began the 2017-2018 school year. In my family, I have a daughter beginning college and a son who began high school. Beginnings are exciting yet scary. Beginnings mean change. Beginnings affect everyone. Beginnings can be positive and they can be negative.

This summer in anticipation of my son’s new beginning in high school, we read a book entitled, Under Our Skin , by Benjamin Watson. His high school offers a community read each summer and this was the book that was chosen. The book primarily focused on race relations resulting from the Ferguson riots, but it also offered words of wisdom throughout.

One of the most profound statements I read in the book was “There is no task in heaven or on earth more difficult than changing the human heart. It requires a supernatural solution.”   Watson goes on to say that the supernatural solution is “God of the Bible whose Son, Jesus Christ, transforms lives by redeeming human hearts. The God who loves me and you and all persons.” He ends this chapter with these words, “Yes, I believe in God. You see, I know how God can change a person’s heart.”

As we continue the beginning of this year, let us begin with joy, knowing that God, through His Son, Jesus loves me and you and all persons and His love can change a person’s heart.

In Christ,
Cheri Gioe
