Milford School District's Core Beliefs

Milford's leadership team identified eight core beliefs to guide our school district.  The following core beliefs were approved by the Board of Education at the August meeting.

  1. We believe that children are at the center of everything we do, and our practice should reflect their best interests.
  2. We believe that character is important, and schools can help shape a child's character.
  3. We believe that service to the community is important.
  4. We believe that all financial decisions should reflect prudent fiscal management and be based on providing the best educational opportunities for children.
  5. We believe that schools must partner with the community to provide the most optimal educational experience possible.
  6. We believe that schools should be welcoming places with a positive climate.
  7. We believe that schools are places built for the education of children, not for adult employment.
  8. We believe that within every school employee has the capacity for leadership.

Watch Notable's Performance of "It Takes a Village."

"It takes a whole village to raise our children. It takes a whole village to raise one child. We all everyone m ust share the burden. We  all everyone  will share the joy."

The beautiful sounds of Notable, under the direction of Mrs. Tracy Carpenter, performed "It Takes a Village" at the convocation for staff and teachers held at Milford High School on August 23.

Dr. Farrell Honored at Convocation
At the Milford School District Convocation held on August 23, the staff surprised Dr. Robert Farrell with a special recognition for his nine years of service as Superintendent. He ended his tenure as Superintendent on July 31, but will continue in a consulting role with the district until December.

"We wanted to show Dr. Farrell our gratitude for his leadership and for how he has inspired and helped us to soar as a district," said current Superintendent, Nancy House.

Staff from each building stood and held a word that reflected Dr. Farrell's character traits and included words like leadership, compassion, wisdom, humor and dedication. Kristen Bruce, 3rd grade student at Meadowview, read the poem Starfish and a Starfish statue was presented to Dr. Farrell.

Milford High School's acapella group, Notable, also sang a beautiful rendition of the song "It Takes a Village." The program concluded with the Milford High School band and cheerleaders leading everyone in the high school fight song.

"I have been so fortunate to work with so many talented and dedicated professionals who serve the students and community of Milford," Dr. Farrell said. "I was overwhelmed by the recognition and very appreciative - I will never forget their kindness. I have been blessed to spend the last nine years working in a community that cares so much about their young people."

Benefits of Full Day Kindergarten Presented

At the August Board of Education meeting, Dr. Jill Chin, Director of Elementary Curriculum, shared a follow-up report on the full-day kindergarten program. She shared results of the part-time and full-time student reading and math assessments, as well as, parent and teacher survey results.

Overall, the benefits of the full-day program are: increased academic growth; social time with peers; participation in special area classes; and pace of curriculum/teaching. Currently, every full-day kindergarten class in the district is full and a second full-day class was added at Pattison. There are also waiting lists at some of the schools for full day.

Milford Selected to Participate in Shakespeare Initiative

Milford High School was selected to participate in PROJECT38, a free arts education initiative sponsored by the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company. During this school year, 18 actors from the CSC ensemble will visit area high schools as teaching artists.

Milford High School English teacher, Kirstie (Rheinheimer) Ford, and Drama teacher, Sherry McCamley, will coordinate the program. Students in Acting III and Mrs. Ford's first semester Shakespeare class will be participating.

"I'm so excited for our students to be able to enjoy Shakespeare through so many different outlets in the 2016-2017 school year: reading Shakespeare in English class and in taking the Shakespeare elective, through the marching band's show, through MHS Drama's performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream this spring, and through PROJECT38. What a great year for Shakespeare at Milford High School," shared Mrs. Ford.

The program culminates in the PROJECT38 festival multi-day celebration, which all the students will gather and share what they've created. The festival will take place during the week of April 20-23, 2017 at Washington Park.
