Attend a Water Quality Town Hall and Advocate for Trees!
Earlier this year, Governor Dayton announced a new goal to improve Minnesota's water quality 25 percent by 2025. In the Governor's report, improving green infrastructure (planting trees) is the 2nd most important step in protecting and improving our water quality across the state.

Did you know an 18" ash tree will mitigate 2,000 gallons of storm water in one year? That's 2,000 gallons of water that is absorbed rather than passing over pavement and picking up pollution on its way to our waterways. Unfortunately, ash trees across the state are being devastated by the invasive pest, the emerald ash borer. Imagine a community losing just 1,000 ash trees- the loss of those trees will result in an additional 2 million gallons of water entering the stormwater system!  If we are to improve our water by 25% across the state, it will be more important than ever that we prioritize planting trees in the coming years!

To enforce the urgency in planting trees, we encourage you to advocate at your local level. Town Hall meetings are being held across the state this summer and fall to allow regular citizens to engage with policymakers; these meetings are free to attend and open to the public. Please consider attending a meeting near you to advocate for the planting of trees to improve water quality. Do you want to attend but are unsure what to say? Tree Trust's YACC Program is Hiring
Tree Trust's Young Adult Conservation Corps (YACC) program is currently hiring participants for its next 12 week paid employment training program. Positions start September 5!
 
YACC participants help to improve the environment and the community by maintaining and developing projects/green spaces, while building transferable job skills to help them reach their future goals. 

Participants work a total of 28 hours per week.  The pay rate starts at $9.50 per hour with immediate potential to earn weekly incentives, plus additional room for advancement!
