Cohen was diagnosed with a brain tumor known as a Craniopharyngioma in February 2017. Cohen has endured two brain surgeries since then. Unfortunately with the surgeries came the lose of his pituitary gland, which caused Addison's Disease, Diabetes Insipidus, Hypopituitarism, Hypothyroidism, and Petit Mal Seizures. Cohen is currently on seven different medications, two of which are life sustaining. Unfortunately, Cohen has lost all the vision in his right eye from the tumor suffocating his optical nerves, and is legally blind in his left with no depth perception or peripheral vision. In turn, he has to learn braille and be evaluated for devices, services, and an aid to help him better learn and manage his conditions. We're currently fighting the insurance company for daily human growth hormone injections, he hasn't grown since he was 3, something he desperately needs. Cohen also does numerous therapies : physical, occupational, and speech. Cohen currently has to get MRI’s done every 3 months to ensure no tumor regrowth, something his tumor is notorious for. Despite all of this Cohen still retains a very happy disposition. He's been brave and comical throughout the pain he has endured through treatment. He's constantly joking around, trying to make light of the situation. He's a regular little boy who enjoys Football, Hockey, PJ Masks, Paw Patrol, Mickey Mouse, Cars, being a big brother, the Zoo, anything involving water and parks. After living at Children's Hospital for 3 months, his medical bills are currently at 1.5 million, with physician bills unaccounted for at this time. Some of his medications, therapies, appointments, further testing and scans are not covered at all or only partially even with two health insurances. In turn, this has put a financial burden on our family during a time that all our focus should be on Cohen. We could not have got through this without the support from family, friends, and complete strangers who've been there to help us along the way. We don't know what the future holds at this time for Cohen, but we know he has an amazing support system regardless.
