The Next Board Meeting is Tonight!

Please join us tonight for the December Board Meeting at 6:00 pm. The Board wants to remind all parents that it's not too late to fulfill your requirements to run for the Board of Directors this Spring for the 2018 - 2019 school year. In order to qualify, candidates must have attended at least two Board meetings this school year and personally completed at least half of their family's mandatory volunteer hours prior to the election process. You can begin fulfilling these requirements now! See the full Election Policy and list of Eligibility Requirements HERE. There's no better way to be involved at CCA.

If you're not interested in running for the Board, but would like to be involved, a parent volunteer is needed to sit on the Election Committee. The commitment involves one meeting a month from January through April. If interested, please contact Jennifer Bailey at jbailey@cherrycreekacademy.org

Finally, the Board Communications Committee is committed to providing the most effective communications for our CCA Community, and our last meeting was a great success with valuable suggestions and feedback shared. The Communications committee welcomes and encourages parental feedback and involvement. In an attempt to allow for more parent involvement, our next meeting will be immediately following the PTO meeting on Friday December 15 (at 9:00 am).

Happy December!
Thank you to parents and students for another successful Winter Music Festival. A special thanks to the Bagwell Family, Word of Life Christian Center, Shawn Kelley, Meg MacFarland, and Johanna Fitt. It was a memorable evening full of band, music and choir performances. Thank you all again for helping make this night so special.
CCA values feedback and provides 2 surveys for you to participate in regarding teachers and the school environment. SAC (School Accountability Committee) and the CCA Board will provide access to these surveys at the same time. The Teacher Feedback Survey for Parents, and the Climate Survey for school feedback, will be available TUESDAY JANUARY 9th, 2018. Please look for the link in future Eagles!

The CCA spelling bee will take place on Thursday, Dec. 14th, at 2:00 for Grades 5-8.
This competition will determine who will go on to the district bee!

Please remember Eagle submissions need to be sent to eagle@cherrycreekacademy.org by 8:00 am Monday morning in order to be in the Tuesday Eagle. Thank you!

A CCA FAMILY NEEDS OUR HELP

giving-hands-together.jpg
Dear CCA Family,
One of our families has been hit with some difficult news. The Bakhrakh family, with son, Lev, who is in 5th grade and daughter, Zoe, in 3rd grade just discovered that their father Peter has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. It is operable and surgery will be performed. We can imagine the difficult times ahead, as they travel the road to recovery. A Go Fund Me page has been set up to raise money to help Peter and his family. If you would like to donate please click on the following link: https://www.gofundme.com/financial-help-for-petr-bakhrakh . Every donation helps no matter the size. Thank you and please join us in keeping Peter and is family in your thoughts in wishing him a speedy recovery.
Volunteers are always welcome in the Cafeteria 10:40am – 1:00pm
We have had an inordinate number of students come to school without lunch. Parents please remember that whether your child is in Kindergarten or 8th grade, it is ultimately your responsibility to make sure your student has a lunch each day.
Students DO NOT have access to a microwave; however, we do have hot water for students who bring “Cup of Noodles".

Low and Negative Milk Account letters were sent home on Monday. Children will not be able to get milk if the balance due is $5.00 or more. You can access your children’s account through PowerSchool.

Go to:  https://my.cherrycreekschools.org and log into your youngest child's POWERSCHOOL. Click BALANCE and look at "Meal Transactions" for your total.
NO glass containers in the cafeteria, please and thank you.

CCA Character Program
By Dave Loomis

For this Fly Like An Eagle article I wanted to talk about a fairly new club we have here at CCA.  This group is our Peer Mediation club . Peer Mediation started meeting back in March of this year. It consists of 5 th , 6 th and 7 th grade students who have been trained in the peer mediation process. The group is led by Karah Yamauchi and myself.  It meets every Friday at 7:15 am in the conference room.

Members of this club have learned how to mediate disagreements between students and have learned how to help resolve problems and create solutions. The students started training on this back in March. They have recently begun scheduling mediations with younger students who need help resolving disagreements. Students who need help come to me and I determine if their concern is something the peer mediators can help with. A peer mediation is then scheduled and the peer mediators and Mrs. Yamauchi meet with the students that need help.

The mediators have helped groups of students figure out how to play better.  They have resolved arguments between individual students. They have helped groups of friends get along better.  I am very proud of these students and the time and effort they have put in to this club.

If you are interested in learning more please let me know. We are looking for more members. We are currently looking to add 4 th and 8 th grade to the membership of the club. For any questions please contact either Karah or myself at 303-779-8988.

Go Eagles!!!

TR AFFIC/SAFETY:
JHL has planned ahead to minimize the impact to normal school operations, including traffic. Morning drop off and afternoon pick up will not change. JHL has scheduled all deliveries and truck/equipment traffic outside of our drop off and pick up times.

JHL created a safety video for our website, highlighting the efforts JHL takes to separate students from the construction as well as their thorough background checks for their employees, and other important efforts being taken to ensure a safe construction site.

JHL, DCS, RTA architects, and CCA leadership meet and discuss new construction tasks that involve safety matters at weekly Owner, Architect, Constructor meetings to ensure the safest site possible.

TOURS:
We are working with JHL Constructors and DCS, CCA's Owner's Rep, to schedule monthly tours for anyone interested in walking the project to hear and see first hand the progress being made. These tours will be held immediately following our regularly scheduled monthly PTO meetings. A PTO tour was held on Friday, 9/15. The next tour date will be 12/15 immediately following the PTO meeting. Remember to wear close-toed shoes to participate!
