Mike's Message
Hello, Texas811 members!
December was another busy month for Texas811. It started with work for charities and ended with (or rather, January began with) our appearance in the prestigious Dallas Business Journal!
Here are some of the highlights of what we did and where we were, as compiled by our Communications Department.
I hope you had a very pleasant holiday season and that 2016 brings you everything you want!

Sincerely,

Mike Losawyer

Toys for Tots

Texas811 employees helped make wishes and dreams come true for young children at Dallas' Buckner Home. Buckner was originally founded in 1879 as the Buckner Orphan's Home. While their initial scope has expanded and they are now known as Buckner International, in Dallas they are still well known as a foster care facility. Many children within their care were removed from homes because of abuse and neglect.
Buckner provided five Christmas wish lists from children waiting to be adopted. From those lists, Texas811 employees provided gifts that will be under the tree for these foster children to open on Christmas morning - a gentle reminder to them that they are valued and loved.
The gifts were loaded up and delivered via Texas811 express by Texas811 employees.

The Texas811 Santa Express wasn't confined to Dallas alone.

Toys were also collected by the Damage Prevention Councils of Texas, Permian Basin for distribution to Safe Place in Midland, Texas, and the Damage Prevention Council of Texas, Red River collected an overfl owing box of toys for the Wichita Falls Fire Department who provides toys to children in need - kids in Abilene are going to be excited about what the DPC of Texas - Big Country collected for Toys for Tots!

The generosity of Texas811 members and employees combined to make this a better Christmas than many children may have imagined was possible.

 Trains at NorthPark

Who hasn't heard of the Ronald McDonald House charities? The RMH mission is to "create, find and support programs that directly improve the health and wellbeing of children."   As part of this mission, they support a nationwide system of Ronald McDonald houses - "homes away from home" so that families can stay close by their hospitalized child at little or no cost.
As a public charity, the organization holds various fundraisers throughout the year, with one of their most famous being the annual "Trains at NorthPark" exhibit.   This exhibit occupies a storefront space at Dallas' world-famous NorthPark Center, home to such shopping destinations as Niemans, Tiffany, Burberry, Macy's and BVLGARI and is the largest holiday Lionel train display in North Texas. Contributors donate to have their family name, their office, or their business emblazoned on the side of a car.  www.thetrainsatnorthpark.com
Texas811 joined the fun in 201 4 with two cabooses carrying the Texas811 logo and message to "Call Before You Dig" - one in English, the other in Spanish. In 2015 we added a box car to the group. Over 600,000 people visit the over 4,000 square foot display every holiday season.

When they aren't roaming the rails during this November/December tradition, the cars live proudly on a display shelf in the Texas811 lobby.

That puts a wrap on this month's newsletter. If you've got an event coming up that we should give a shout out for, send an email.

Until next time, dig safe!

Sincerely,

Texas811
