Beef Council Directors Set Priorities During Strategic Planning Session
Priorities set during the strategic planning session provide direction for Missouri Checkoff dollars.
Columbia, MO- The Missouri Beef Industry Council (MBIC) Board of Directors began their January meeting at the Missouri Cattle Industry Convention a day early to set priorities for state checkoff dollars during a strategic planning session conducted by Todd Johnson, Vice President Federation Services at the National Cattlemen's Beef Association.

The planning session focused around implementing the core strategies of the Beef Industry Long Range Plan, which include: drive growth in beef exports, protect and enhance the business and political environment for beef, grow consumer trust in beef and beef production, and promote and strengthen beef's value proposition.

"Our elected board members engaged in spirited and fruitful discussion to determine priorities for the Missouri Beef Industry Council moving forward.  This plan will guide the board and staff in our work to grow beef demand moving forward" said Board Chairman, Glen Waters.

The MBIC Board of Directors continued with their meeting on Friday, January 6th, the first official day of the Missouri Cattle Industry Convention. MBIC staff provided updates on promotion, education, and research initiatives, and Evers and Company of Jefferson City, MO presented the results of the annual independent audit for fiscal year ending September 30, 2016. Jo Lynn Moore of Evers and Company reported that the Missouri Beef Industry Council was in compliance with the Beef Promotion and Research Act of 1985 and the Beef Promotion and Research Order relative to the use of funds. Furthermore Evers and Company determined that the financial statements were presented fairly in all material respects.

About MBIC
The Missouri Beef Council is a nonprofit organization responsible for administering programs of promotion, education, research, and consumer and industry information.  The MBIC is part of a coordinated state/national effort funded and controlled by beef producers who are assessed $1 per head each time a beef animal is sold.  Half of each dollar is forwarded to the Cattlemen's Beef Promotion and Research Board (CBB) and the other half of the dollar is retained by the Missouri Beef Industry Council to fund state-based programs that complement and extend the industry wide effort to promote beef. About The Beef Checkoff:  The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.
