Congratulations to Brenda Oum the 2017 Lafayette Marquee Business Person of the Year!
Twenty years ago, Cynthia Murdough, owner of
Papillon Gourmet Coffee, was honored as our Business Person of the Year. Now that honor has come full circle as we say congratulations to Brenda Oum, current owner of Papillon as the 2017 Business Person of the Year. Brenda received over 40 nominations from her patrons, one of them said "Papillon is the Cheers of Lafayette". Brenda's life story was the subject of a recent published book.
Join us at the dinner honoring her and her family along with Mayor Mike Anderson's "State of the City" address and the introduction of our 2017-2018 Board of Directors. Reservations can be made by visiting our website,

California's Sales Tax Rate Decrease
On January 1, 2017, the statewide sales and use tax rate decreased one quarter of one percent (0.25%) from 7.50 percent to 7.25 percent. The decrease in the statewide rate is effective for all cities and counties in California. The sales and use tax rate has decreased because Proposition 30, The Schools and Local Public Safety Protection Act of 2012 that was approved by California voters in November 2012 to temporarily increase the sales and use tax by 0.25 percent, expired December 31, 2016. For all businesses in Lafayette, your current sales tax rate is 8.25% effective January 1, 2017.

California Competes Tax Credit
The California Competes Tax Credit is an income tax credit available to businesses that want to locate in or stay and grow in California. There is currently $100 million available from now until 1/23/17 with another opportunity to apply for $68.3 million plus whatever hasn't been already allocated occurring from 3/6-3/27/17.
