Eight Habits of Happy Kids
This year at Loma Portal Elementary, our entire school is learning about the Eight Habits of Happy Kids by Stephen R. Covey. For the month of January, we are focusing on the fourth habit: Think-Win-Win. Students are doing activities in class, and we're talking about it as a school. We'd love to have you continue the work at home! Attached HERE
is an explanation of the fourth habit, as well as a fun activity that you can do with your kid. Enjoy!

Garden Club News
Garden Club Happenings
Garden Club was canceled this week due to rains. Although the plants are super happy!
We are working on securing an indoor location so the club can go rain or shine! We will start to certify Loma Portal Elementary for the District's Garden to Cafe program
so the children can experience how to systematically harvest and account for the bounty to directly benefit their peers at the cafeteria salad bar.
The mission at Good Neighbor Gardens - to teach the children three things (1) life skills, (2) life science, and (3) community service from the garden.
Garden Club 2017 Registration
Registration for the winter session of garden club is OPEN!!
The Garden Club will run January 12th - March 30th on Thursdays from 12:45-2:00pm. Cost is $120/student for the Winter Session ($10/class).
All grades are welcome. Parents do NOT need to be present at the club. However, parent volunteers are always welcome!
Garden lessons are thoughtfully planned and connect to the common core...all while the kids play in the dirt, learn how to grow and harvest vegetable and spend time outside!
Check out this wonderful video of other Good Neighbor Garden Clubs in San Diego.
If you would like more information about the garden club and other ecological schoolyard projects, please contact Ilisa at igoldman@rootedinplace.com
