As president of the club, it is my duty to remind everyone that membership renewals are now due for 2017. As I mentioned in an earlier newsletter message, no dues means no membership, and no membership means no flying at Bill Martin Field. I hope all of you will take the time to download a membership application off the website and mail your check in as soon as possible. I also want to remind you that your membership is not valid unless you are current in your AMA membership as well.
At our February club meeting, we will have the club's annual Key Night where new keys will be available for the field gate and storage container. Y
our club and AMA memberships must be up-to-date to receive your key.
In other business, the indoor fly at the Milford Youth Center (MYC) continues to be a great success. We had 19 pilots at our last event on Friday, January 21. Check out the club event calendar on the website or in the newsletter for the indoor fly schedule at the MYC. If you haven't tried it yet, indoor flying is a hoot! We even have a moving aircraft carrier for those brave enough to show off their flying abilities!
The club executive committee recently met to plan and outline future events for 2017. Please mark your calendars now for the annual Winter Build Night schedule to take place at our club meeting on April 25, 2017. As always members present will be judging the best in several categories of aircraft. I hope all of you are busy getting that plane, helicopter or quad copter ready for the competition and the flying season.
Also mark your calendars for our annual Field Day to be conducted on the last Saturday in April. The exact date is April 29. As always, we ask members to come out and share in the cleanup and maintenance of the field by cleaning up debris along the access road and fertilizing the field. We'll also be making a further assessment of any other things that will need attention. Come out and pitch in and enjoy a day of flying along with getting a free lunch of hot dogs and burgers.
I would also like to report that the executive committee is already hard at work planning other events for the year, such as a Float Fly sometime in May along with a number of Fun Flys that will be scheduled for the summer and fall. Keep an eye on the club event calendar and come to the monthly meetings in order to help determine future club events. In addition, we have started the process of procuring Plains Park in Milford for our annual Bill O'Donnell Milford Day that is held on the Sunday of Columbus Day Weekend in October. More details will be forthcoming in the months ahead.
In closing, I hope everyone is taking advantage of the warmer weather we're having and getting in some "stick" time even though it's still winter. Although, I did mount snow skis on one airplane that I'm itching to try out! See you either at the field and/or at our next club meeting.
Remember, airspeed and altitude are your friends.
