The Center Announces
Search for  a New Building

It's the time of year for New Year's resolutions.  We don't know if you've already made yours, but at The Center, we've been working hard to winnow down our list.

The Center is an initiative of the Presbytery of Baltimore whose mission is to inspire and equip churches and individuals to engage boldly with their neighborhoods - to get involved where Christ's love and justice are already at work. One way The Center fulfills that mission is by hosting local and out-of-state church groups for mission immersion experiences in the Baltimore metro area, Glen Burnie and Annapolis.

We had much to celebrate in 2016, our 5th   year of operation:  a growing number of partner congregations in the Presbytery, a growing number of church groups coming to participate in mission experiences with us, a solid Steering Committee and devoted building repair and maintenance volunteers.

At the same time, though, we are dealing with some significant new challenges.  Most important among them is that we are beginning the process of identifying a new physical space for The Center.  The Session of First and Franklin Presbyterian Church has concluded that they are unable to maintain The Center's current building, and they have asked us to move out by January of 2020.  Our dormitory facility at First and Franklin has been a wonderful "home away from home" for our participants since we opened it in 2013, offering comfortable accommodations in a safe and centrally located neighborhood.

As we look at our New Year's resolutions for 2017, our top priority is to find a new building.

While First and Franklin Presbyterian Church has given us a generous timeline, this is a tremendous project considering the resources it will require and the time it will take to locate, renovate, and move into a new space.  We will very much miss our current space, which so many of you helped make such a welcoming and comforting space for many of our brothers and sisters in the faith from all over the country.  While we wish circumstances were different, we are committed to bringing the same entrepreneurial spirit to this next phase of our organizational life, and we covet your prayers and support during this time of transition.

We are actively seeking a new space that will be able to house our dormitory and educational spaces.  A new space will require:
  • +/- 5,000-6,000 square feet
  • overnight parking for up to 12 vehicles at a time
  • location in Baltimore City
Please contact Kate Foster Connors at 410.433.2012 or
[email protected]  if you know of any such spaces. We are open to any and all possibilities!
