California Wildfires
The fires in Southern California are impacting the processing and shipping of certain commodities. While no product in the fields has been affected, the smoke and firefighting efforts have caused road closures and heavy traffic. Some warehouse facilities experienced temporary power loss, delaying shipping.

Freight Rates
Truck rates are expected to increase as drivers protest electronic logs.

Tomatoes
Act of God crop failure letters began circulating in mid-November from some of the industry's leading growers. Despite that, Seashore has been able to secure product and fulfill its commitments up until this point.

Florida: The Palmetto/Ruskin area of Florida is harvesting less than 10% of normal early December production. The Immokalee growing area in Florida is two weeks away from beginning to harvest.

Mexico: Not nearly enough available to cover current demand. Mexico's tomato harvests are down 50% due to prolonged cool weather.

All tomatoes are light in color and will be for the next 3-4 weeks. The price of Roma/plum tomatoes has skyrocketed as some users had switched to romas with the round shortage. Grape and cherry tomatoes have followed suit and increased significantly in the past few days.

The next two weeks will be the most critical until more tomatoes become available out of Mexico and then Immokalee, Florida gets going .

Lettuces
The lettuce market is trending higher. We are 10 to 14 days ahead of harvesting schedules. The colder weather in the Yuma, AZ growing region is starting to affect supplies.

Opt for Tender Leaf Lettuces.

Plums will be available through mid-December. Peaches and Nectarines are in a supply gap as domestic crops have finished and Chili hasn't begun.

The Navel crop is the lightest crop since 2009; it will not fill demand. Small fruit will be in short supplies all season long.
