Happy Hanukah From MDYHS!
As we prepare for Hanukah at MDYHS, Rabbi Joey Haber made sure that "before we make the holiday light for ourselves, we make it light for everyone else". So, in front of the entire school, and Chai Lifeline Representative Mrs. Chaya Chana Max, in a Toy Drive organized by our Philanthropy Club President, Grace Jammal, we presented all the gifts our students bought and wrapped for children involved in Chai Lifeline!

And continuing the theme of giving, we held our Bi-Annual Blood Drive, run by our student organizers, Danielle Betesh, Rozie Shamah, Jacqueline Sasson, and Ezra Mann. It saw an amazing turnout of students, alumni, teachers, and neighbors. Tizku L'Mitzvot!

Junior/Senior Seminar

Our Juniors and Seniors had Seminar over the weekend, where all the sessions and acitivties followed the theme of Stand Up. Many teachers gave sessions about courage and standing up for what you believe in, even if that means you're standing alone. Students united and bonded over this spiritual weekend while enjoying a mentalist, along with lots of dancing and singing!

Sneaking out for a few hours on Saturday night, to participate in the Rikudiah Competition against other schools, was our super talented Dance Team, led by Mrs. Rachelle Tawil

Our VEI Team, led by Mrs. Amanda Cohen, competed in the Annual Business Plan competition, against 40 New York schools. They p resented their business, 1WorldFood Corp, a multicultural catering company, in a  presentation, followed by a Q&A, at LIU's Kumble Theater. Next up for VEI is keeping up with daily operations,  marketing, making sales, etc., all in preparation for the New York Trade Show in April!
Museum Tours
The 9th grade Honors Program, with Ms. Lisa Dadush,  kicked off this week with a trip to the Met . Students toured and analyzed different pieces of art presented in different mediums to learn about how communication has changed through time.

Our Freshman Scholars took a trip last week to the Liberty Science Center for a day of exploring the medical field. They began the day watching a live kidney transplant through a video hookup with Saint Barnabas Hospital, before  heading to the lab to dissect a cow's eye and then a tour of the "Bodies Revealed" exhibition.

Poetry at MDYHS
Our talented young poets, Mark Btesh, Jack Bibi, and Sarah Haddad, accompanied by Mrs. Katie Btesh and Mrs. Helene Dwek, competed in an Annual Slam Poetry Competition at Kushner Academy, where they performed two poems they've written following the theme of Villains, and The Unnoticed. Take a look at Sarah and the boys performing their 'Unnoticed' poem HERE.
