**NEW**
From Principal Kelly Clapp
(You probably received this via email on Friday, too)

Hello:
Below I have some news items from RMS as well as some information about the upcoming School Attendance Boundary Process.  I hope everyone has a great weekend.
Kelly
  • 2nd Semester begins on January 30th.  Students will receive copies of their second semester schedules during 6th period on Friday.  Counselors are still working on balancing classes, so if you check schedules on Skyward now, just know they won't be finalized until Thursday.  In general, the only classes that change from one semester to the next are one-semester elective classes, fitness and health.  We will be communicating to students not to contact counselors to request changes in classes or teachers unless there is an actual error in their schedule (such as getting art 1 when they just had art 1).
  • 5th grade parent night is this Tuesday from 7-8 in the RMS gym.  Additionally, parents can show up at 6:30 for an optional self-guided tour of the school and/or to look at materials and information we will have set out.  There will also be an optional question and answer session at 8:00 in the gym.  This night is not for students as we have other events scheduled for them.
  • Spirit Week is this upcoming week.  Each day has a different dress up theme and the week culminates with our winter social.  The dress up days are:  PJ Monday; Twin Tuesday; Black and White Wednesday; Throwback Thursday; and Moonlit Ball.
    • The winter social is this Friday from 2:30-4:30 (Moonlit Ball theme, but kids do NOT have to dress up).
    • Please remember that if your student attends the social, they are expected to remain until 4:30, unless you have made arrangements ahead of time.  You can email me  to let me  know if you need to pick up your student early and when you want to meet them out front.  I will make sure our "door person" has a list.
    • The event ends at 4:30, so parents should not be waiting for a phone call from their students.  Please expect to pick them up right at 4:30, unless they walk.
School Attendance Boundary Process.  Attached you will find the District information about this very important process. It's exciting when we get to build new buildings in our community, but there is a lot of work to be done in order to decide who attends these new schools, and which elementary schools feed into the the middle schools.   I know that everyone is busy, but it will be important that you do take the time to give your feedback in the survey that will be coming out.  School Attendance Boundary School Newsletter item.docx

January Safety Tips - EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

Now is a good time to review your emergency plan with your family:
 * Identify fire escape routes in your home
* Demonstrate what the smoke alarm sounds like for your children
* How you will communicate in an emergency
* Where to go once everyone is outside

Make sure to have enough emergency supplies in your home:
* Water is the most important emergency supply. Recommendation: 1 gallon per person per day for at least 3 days. For example, a family of 4 should have at least 12 gallons of water on hand.
* Food is also important, but you don't need anything special. Canned foods and
unopened boxes of cereal and crackers keep for a long time and are probably in your pantry already.
* A flashlight, battery-powered radio, and extra batteries are also good to have in your emergency kit.
