Highlights of EVLT's Recent Activities:

Save the Date for the Eagle Valley Land Trust Legacy Festival

Saturday August 8, 2015, Eagle Town Park, 4:00-7:00pm

We're in full planning mode for this year's big fundraiser. EVLT is moving the conservation-themed Evergreen Ball outside and opening it up to celebrate conservation broadly.

With over 300 people expected in attendance, the 2015 EVLT Legacy Festival celebrates our community's collective conservation efforts and features the return of the last year's popular cow patty bingo game.

The EVLT Legacy Festival combines last year's hugely successful cow patty bingo event, the conservation theme of EVLT's past Evergreen Ball events, and an exposition for community organizations and businesses that incorporate conservation into their mission and business plans.

Of course, there will be plenty of food, drinks, music, and fun and games for the whole family. We'll honor our c onservation easement land  owners as well.

Please save Saturday August 8, 2015! Free entry to all. Cow patty bingo tickets on sale soon on our web site.

Land Conservation Progresses on the Colorado River: EVLT is excited to announce that it has entered into a letter of intent on a stunning ranch in Eagle County containing senior water rights and over 1/2 mile of Colorado river frontage. As more details can be made public, we will provide them!
Colorado River in Winter
Conservation of land and water rights along the Colorado River is one of the highest priorities of the State of Colorado and various conservation organizations such as the NRCS and the Gates Foundation.

Earth Day Celebration: The Duck Pond Open Space boat launch opened on Earth Day with EVLT in attendance. The ribbon cutting ceremony included EVLT Executive Director, Jim Daus who spoke about EVLT's conservation easement on the property. Board Member Emeritus, Tom Edwards, joined former commissioner Jon Stavney to cut the ribbon! Congratulations Eagle County on this great new amenity.

Trails: EVLT helped the town of Avon evaluate a proposed Enduro race as part of Vail Mountain Games on the West Avon Preserve. The conservation easement allows such uses, however the town and EVLT agreed that strict limitations would be needed to prevent resource damage, and to provide for prompt revegetation of any areas impacted. The town planned to take public comments prior to approving the event. However, as the town looked into the feasibility of doing such an event this year, they decided that it was not possible for 2015. EVLT anticipates reviewing the proposed event again next year if requested by the Town.

Did you know...

...two important bills are pending in Colorado that we hope you will support by calling state representatives:

On April 17, due to fiscal impact concerns, the House Appropriations Committee voted to postpone  HB 15-1314  which creates a new tax credit for individual donations  to endowment funds held by Colorado-based nonprofits and community foundations.  If it was enacted, Colorado would have joined five other states (IA, KY, MD, MT,ND) in offering a tax credit for donations to charitable endowments. Perhaps in future years this bill will be proposed again. For  more information, click here .

EVLT's Future Conservationists are making a difference!
Red Canyon High School students spent their second day stewarding the West Avon Preserve in Avon on Tuesday April 28 th . A group of seniors and teachers spent the morning doing restoration work. With pick axes and loppers, they turned over the soils, chopped native sage-brush, moved rocks and seeded the former "Motorcycle Flats" ditch.  After a morning of working on the trail, more than 150 feet of the motor-cross trail were repaired, about one-sixth of a mile west of the Avon Singletree Connector Trailhead on Nottingham Road.
EVLT's Future Conservationists Program teaches local youth about the importance of land conservation while engaged in service projects on EVLT conserved land. Last week, these Red Canyon High School students helped revegetate "Motorcycle Flats" on the West Avon Preserve.

Allowing students to volunteer on EVLT's public access conservation easements benefits both the students and the public. By approaching education with a hands-on approach, the Red Canyon students are able to complete meaningful work and give back to the community's open space. After Red Canyon's first volunteer day in the Fall of 2014, you can already see native grasses and sage sprouting from their work, reinforcing that volunteers provide exceptional and important work to preserve Eagle County. Hooray for EVLT"s Future Conservationists!
