Legacy Festival Sponsor LogosThe EVLT Legacy Festival brings together rural non-profits, local agencies, and local businesses that have conservation in their mission and business plan to celebrate our community's efforts towards making this place even better in the future. Combining last year's hugely successful cow patty bingo event, the conservation theme of EVLT's past Evergreen Ball events, and an exposition for community organizations and businesses that incorporate conservation into their mission and business plans, it is sure to be a great time!

EVLT in the Press: What Will Be Your Legacy?

(an excerpt from the July 22nd article in the Vail Daily by EVLT's Tom Wessel) We all desire to care for our natural surroundings and to set an example for how to care for the land that sustains us. The work we all do today in caring for our mountains, valleys and streams will have lasting benefits tomorrow. Every day, individuals and organizations dedicated to protecting our land, air and water work hard to take care of our natural environment. Whether participating in an organized trail cleanup or picking up a piece of loose trash on the trail, we all play a role in taking care of our land. By committing to steward our lan d and rivers, we can preserve the character of our community for future generations and ensure our children and grandchildren can enjoy the same natural beauty from which we benefit each day.

Did you know...

...non-profits are eligible for state tax credits?  On Wednesday, July 15, 2015, the state of Colorado adopted an emergency regulation that affirmed that non-profits owning land are eligible for the conservation easement credit. "A nonprofit corporation...can claim a gross conservation easement credit for a conservation easement donation..." There are certain exclusions, but the vast number of non-profits such as HOA's, religious and community organizations, and even land trusts can donate conservation easements on land they own to raise capital. If you are aware of a non-profit organization that receives gifts of land or owns significant lands that could be considered for protection, please have them contact their local land trust to review the appropriate

ness of their inventory of land for the program. For more information, read here.

...EVLT ranch tour provides a glimpse into ranching heritage past and future? In an effort to provide education about ranching in our community, EVLT has organized a ranch tour August 22nd which stops at the Girard Ranch near Gypsum, the 8 Bar Ranch (on Derby Mesa Loop along the Colorado River near Burns), and the Big Hat Alpaca Ranch in McCoy.

Due to fantastic articles in the Vail Daily, the tour is fully booked, but we are taking names on a waiting list. Contact us at 970-748-7654 if you'd like to get on the list. Read the great articles and see fantastic pictures and video for each ranch:
