Information Night! Wow!
Many thanks you's to all who volunteered during last week's Information Night.  It was a big night with 821 people attending.  We had 35 students and 25 parents volunteering.  All went smoothly and the guests were very impressed with ICS - Thanks to you!
Speak Up to Keep Schools and Students Safe
If you or your student have information on threats to safety of students or staff, the district's SafeSchools Alert system now has four ways to report it. Threats to safety could include but aren't limited to bullying, intimidation, harassment, weapons or drugs. Reports may be made anonymously.
Here are the four ways you can report information:
All tips submitted to our SafeSchools Alert system are taken seriously and will be acted on.
VOLUNTEERING
Immediate Help Needed in the Lunchroom!
We are in need of parent volunteers to help in the lunchroom. It is a fun and easy way for parents to obtain all of their volunteer hours for the year just by helping out during the lunch hour. Commitment is for one day a week for the semester or for the entire school year. Lunch is served Monday - Friday; we have many parents
that use their work lunch break to help us in the lunchroom. If you are available, please consider helping us! Volunteers are needed now for these positions:

Tuesdays

Food preparation helper: 10am - 11am (requires a WA Food Worker's Card)

Thursdays
Lyceum Set up/Clean up: 11am - 12pm (no WA Food Worker's card required)

Fridays
Food server (serving hot food to the students): 11:00am - 12:00pm (requires a WA Food Worker's Card)

All parent volunteers handling food are required to have their WA Food Worker's Card which is easy to obtain via this website.
Please contact Amy Iracheta  if you are interested in helping or if you have any questions.
CELEBRATING ICS
ICS's Math Club Team Won 2nd Place in Math is Cool Masters Competition
The math club team representing ICS won 2nd place at the Masters phase of the Math Is Cool Competition last Saturday. The Masters team was composed of Sebastian Gaertner, Josh Wentzien, Marko Morrison, and Christopher Wang.

Not only did this particular team of four win 2nd place at Masters this year, but also the team overall won 2nd place at the Math Is Cool regional competition for three years in a row, and everyone on the team contributed to the team's success, in addition to the 4 students who were able to get to Masters.

Volunteering at ICS - Reminder
We are coming to the end of the first semester this year. Have you been volunteering and reporting your hours to the website? This is a great time to think about volunteering - the end of the year will be upon us in no time, and then it is very difficult to find opportunities to fill the 30 hour annual commitment.
A few reminders:
  • Focus Week is May 22-26. Parent volunteers will be needed and requests for assistance will be posted in future newsletters.
  • Volunteer hours cannot be gifted or transferred between families.
  • Hours can be earned by adult family members or caregivers.
  • Site Work Parties/Clean up hours count for ALL family members who attend - students, siblings, parents, etc.
If you need help finding opportunities, please read the weekly newsletter - this is where volunteer opportunities are advertised. You can also contact committee chairs directly if you'd like to work with a particular committee. Their contact information can be found in the school directory, or at this link on the PTSA website. If you still need help identifying opportunities or have questions, please contact Kathy Thompson and Julie Kotler. Thank you in advance for supporting our school, staff and students!

Reporting Volunteer Hours
Here is how to record your volunteer hours:
  1. Log into the PTSA website using the log in form on the right side of the homepage.
  2. Click on Input Volunteer Hours under the Volunteering menu item on the left side of the screen.
  3. Complete all of the required information and click on the 'Submit' button. If you've already entered volunteer hours in the past, your last entry will be pre-populated on the screen. Simply edit the 'Category', 'Hours', and 'Comments' (if necessary) and click on the 'Submit' button once. If you do not click on the 'Submit' button, your hours will not be recorded.

Please note: You must first create an account on the website in order to record your hours. Once you've registered and 'confirmed' your registration, please allow 24 hours for your account to be approved. You will need an active account to enable you to post your volunteer hours. If you have questions about reporting your hours on the website or have trouble with logging on, please contact the PTSA webmaster for assistance.

The Student Study Center is Open!
Need someone to practice Spanish with for an upcoming test or just need feedback or ideas on a paper you've been working on? Student tutors are ready to help with all subjects. This is a great opportunity to get insight from fellow students who have been through the academic material before, it's free and there are snacks to ensure that the brain is fed.
The Student Study Center is open every day during lunch in the Library and every day except Wednesday in Room 157 from 2:05 - 3:00 PM. Walk-ins welcome or you can sign up here.
