Dear Friends,
The first week of 2017 started off with some gloomy and tired faces in the halls and classrooms of Assumption Catholic School, but ended with an exciting and fun bonding experience at Alumni Hall on the campus of Fairfield University.
I would like to thank the Fairifeld University Athletic Department and the Women's Basketball Team for inviting us to the MAAC Kids'Day Out on Friday. Kids' Day Out is designed to expose area youth to the experience of college athletics and encourage them to study hard, stay fit, and strive to do the best they can.
Our students were given educational and informative game programs and drawstring souvenir bags. They also participated in on court activities during timeouts and between quarters. The Fairfield coaching staff and student athletes were gracious and dignified hosts for this event. The women were truly appreciative of our support and showed their gratitude by signing autographs, taking pictures, and spending time with our students after the game.

This was a great opportunity to step away from the classroom and enjoy the company of classmates and colleagues, while cheering our Fairfield Stags on to victory over the Siena Saints. I will continue to seek these opportunities to expose our students to new experiences and adventures, maybe some day in the not to distant future we will be cheering on one of our own alum at a game or show!

Uniform and
Spirit Wear
Clarification
Items Purchased Through Dennis Uniform can be Worn During the School Day
The official school uniform is outlined on our website, click here for a link to the uniform section of the homepage. Below are some guidelines to remind you of the uniform expectations.
Sweatshirts
Only the 8th grade has permission to wear hooded sweatshirts as part of the official uniform.
All other students may wear their spirit wear sweatshirts to school, but they will be asked to take them off during the school day. There are several options available through Dennis Uniform if your child is cold in the traditional uniform during the day.
On dress uniform days girls can wear the cardigan sweater and boys can wear the sweater or sweater vest over their shirt and tie. Both boys and girls can wear the long sleeve or fleece vest throughout the day.
Shoes and Sneakers
Casual shoes such as loafers, boat shoes, Mary Janes, or lace up dress shoes are to be worn on dress uniform days. Boots or sneakers are not acceptable!
Modest sneakers are to be worn on gym days. Sneakers should be of a solid color, preferably black, white, blue, or gray. Bright, flashy, neon, or light up sneakers are not permitted.
Gym Uniform
During the colder months students must wear the sweatpants for gym days. Stunts should also wear the gray gym shirt with the logo on gym days. Should they choose to wear the gray sweatshirt, the official tee shirt should be work underneath.
The tie dyed spirit wear shirt is not acceptable for gym days. Only the pink breast cancer shirt may be worn as an alternative to the official gray tee shirt.
Spirit Wear
Spirit wear can be ONLY worn to school with an official dress down pass or on designated Spirit Wear Days.
Please make every effort to acquire the proper uniforms through Dennis Uniform or the school uniform store. Contact the HSA at [email protected] to inquire about uniform store access.

Message from the School Nurse
Flu Season is Upon Us
 Flu season usually peaks between December and March and we are definitely in the midst of it. As the cold and flu season continues, please reinforce the importance of good hygiene with your children. Hand washing is the most important factor in preventing the spread of these viruses. I encourage the influenza vaccine for all students and staff if you have not already received it.
When your child is home ill, please remember to call the main office and indicate what the illness is...I track diseases such as strep throat, bronchitis, pneumonia, conjunctivitis. Remember that all medications administered during school, including over-the-counter medication such as Tylenol, Advil, or even cough drops, require a doctor's order.
Please keep the health of your children and their classmates/teachers in mind when deciding when your child should return to school after illness. It is a Fairfield Department of Public Health guideline to keep students home from school until they are 24 hours fever free, without the use of medication. Students should also not be participating in the classroom when vomiting or diarrhea is present as these GI viruses are very contagious.

Virtus Registration and Training
All Adult volunteers must be Virtus Trained
To register with Virtus and be eligible to volunteer, coach, or chaperone in school or at a school sponsored event you must register with Virtus, complete a training and agree to a background check.
