Notice: Township of Brock By-law Number 957-88-PP Snow Clearing Regulations

It is illegal to park a vehicle on a road so as to interfere with the clearing of snow. Failure to comply may result in your vehicle being tagged and/or towed away.
Your co-operation is appreciated.

Winter Maintenance and Snow Removal

For your travel safety and convenience, the Township provides winter road maintenance in accordance with the Province's  Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways . When roads become icy, an initial pass of sand/salt is applied to all roads. Additional passes or changes to treatment responses may occur if staff encounter severe winter events or restricted resources.  Therefore longer completion times may result. Your patience and co-operation is greatly appreciated in these circumstances.

Keeping Cleared Snow on Property
The Township devotes a great deal of resources to keep streets and sidewalks clear of snow and ice after a snowfall. Residents often deposit snow and ice from their property onto the street or sidewalk not realizing that this contravenes municipal regulations, contributes to unsafe driving and walking conditions, and increases the cost of providing winter road maintenance. When you're clearing snow from your driveway, please keep this snow on your property. Your efforts in making winter driving and walking safe for everyone are appreciated.

Tip for clearing driveways: Piling snow to the right side of the driveway can help reduce the amount of snow pushed back into the driveway. Standing in the driveway and looking at the street determines the right side. Don't forget to remove your parked car from the street during  snow removal operations.

Winter Day Camp

Winter camp is being held during the Winter Holiday Break for children aged 4 - 12 during the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the Beaverton - Thorah Community Centre. Games, crafts and activities will be planned according to the  daily theme.

Keep Your Pets Safe this Winter
  • Never leave your cat or dog alone in the car during cold weather. Cars hold in the cold, acting like refrigerators, which could cause your dog to freeze to death
  • Consider putting a comfortable sweater on your short haired pet, and never shave your dog down to the skin, as a longer coat will provide more warmth

  • Be aware of cats seeking warmth under vehicle hoods . Make a point of knocking on the hood or sounding the horn before you start your vehicles engine.
  • Outdoor dogs must be provide adequate shelter and a constant supply of fresh water. Ensure your outdoor dog's shelter is elevated, well insulated, and has a door flap that faces away from prevailing winds
  • Use a damp towel to wipe your pet's paws after being outside. Salt and other chemicals used to melt snow and ice on roads and sidewalks can irritate and burn your pets sensitive paws.
