Trump was certified as the winner with 305 electoral votes as President. Also Hillary Clinton received 227 votes pledged to her. Thoughts - Perhaps TSA and Homeland Security have the strategy very wrong. Rather than intimately patting down mainstream grandmothers and others with no history of security issues, we ought to be looking into the eyes to determine any signs of compromise, threat or concern, and doing profiles of passengers and airport workers before they arrive on the scene.

++ Record 95,102,000 Americans Not in Labor Force; Number Grew 18% Since Obama Took Office in 2009. The final jobs report of the Obama presidency, released Friday, shows that the number of Americans not in the labor force has increased by 14,573,000 (18.09 percent) since January 2009, when Obama took office, continuing a long-term trend that began well before Obama was sworn in.
In December, according to the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics, a record 95,102,000 Americans were not in the labor force, 47,000 more than in November; and the labor force participation rate was 62.7 percent, a tenth of a point higher than in November. The participation rate dropped to a 38-year low of 62.4 percent on Obama's watch, in September 2015. It was only 3-tenths of a point higher than that last month. More (Thanks, Lanny)
++ A Cook County judge on Friday ordered four African-American defendants accused of holding a white schizophrenic man captive and torturing him for hours held without bond - They face charges of aggravated kidnapping, hate crime, aggravated unlawful restraint and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Hill is also charged with robbery, residential burglary and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. In addition, Cooper and Brittany Covington are charged with residential burglary. ++ Ford cancels Mexico plant, to invest $700M at Flat Rock - TRUMP MADE THE DIFFERENCE! Ford Motor Co. said Tuesday it is canceling plans to establish a $1.6 billion in plant in Mexico to build the Ford Focus. It plans to invest $700 million at its Flat Rock Assembly Plant and create 700 new jobs in Michigan as it adds production of a new electric small SUV and a self-driving hybrid vehicle.
Ford was repeatedly criticized on the campaign trail by President-elect Donald Trump for its plans to build a plant in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, where it was to build the next-generation Focus. Instead, it will build the car at an existing Mexico factory.
Ford President and CEO Mark Fields cited the company's recent decision on a shift in buyer preferences as compact car sales have fallen. But he said factors included the pro-business environment it sees in the U.S. amid proposed policies under Trump. Link

++ Exxon Mobil Corp. has awarded former Chief Executive Rex Tillerson a $180 million retirement package as the company moves to break financial ties with President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for secretary of state.
If Mr. Tillerson is confirmed, Exxon will transfer the equivalent value of two million unvested shares that he was set to receive at his previously expected retirement in March into a trust, according to the company. The decision will allow Mr. Tillerson to sell off all of his remaining shares in the company, a step he has committed to make if he is confirmed, according to Exxon. Currently, he holds more than 600,000 vested shares worth about $54 million.
The deal amounts to about $7 million less than the compensation package that he would have received if he hadn't been tapped for the post. Mr. Tillerson stepped down as Exxon CEO Jan. 1. Before his nomination, he was set to receive more than $180 million in shares that would have vested over a decade. The company consulted with federal regulators before agreeing to terms. Article

Marian Marek - Trump can get Mexico and South America to pay for the Wall by tacking a fee to the wire transfer of money. In Mexico alone takes in about $2 billion a month in remittances. The Bank of Mexico tracks how much the country receives in remittances on a monthly basis. In 2015, Mexico took in nearly $25 billion in total, including from countries besides the United States. But most of it was from the United States.

++ Justice Stephen Markman was selected Friday as the new Michigan Supreme Court chief justice - Markman has been on the SCOM for 17 years, preciously serving on the Court of Appeals, as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan, Deputy Attorney General where he vetted President Reagan's judicial appointees, and as a Constitution expert on congressional staff. He has taught Constitutional Law at Hillsdale College. Chief Justice Markman is married and has two grown sons. He has participated at MiCPAC conferences.
Gov. Snyder called him a fair and consistent voice with a wealth of knowledge about Michigan's judicial system and constitutional law and "will be a great asset as he takes the helm..." MORE

Where could Michigan cut the budget?
One of our candidates is Public Schools!Michigan public schools have lost thousands of students year after year. That should require fewer teachers and less building space, maintenance and operatings costs, and fewer non-teaching positions.
But wait! That might reduce the number of union members and dues!Can't have that! So, for a decade or so the mantra has been lower class sizes = better education. But that is not true. Michigan's 2nd best secondary school has 29 students per teacher; the 5th and 18th best 39 students per teacher. We now have 118 non-teachers for every 100 teachers. The budget has soared $250M more each year. While quality has flat-lined and Michigan is 41st in quality in the USA that is merely 34th in quality in the World. Throwing money at public education without accountability has been a huge waste. Let's hold the line and demand results! Return control to parents and locals!

Michigan Personal Income has flat-lined.
On average, Michigan Teacher salaries relative to state per capita income rank #1 Nationally and about 70% more. In many instances a teacher working 800-900 hours in the class makes more than a two worker family. We aren't complaining about how much a great teacher makes. We think great teachers are held down by the "collective" that protects the lazy and lousy. There should be merit pay for great teachers. Lousy teachers should be dismissed. We need accountability!

++ Republican state Sen. Jack Brandenburg said he is preparing sweeping legislation to eliminate Michigan's personal income tax, arguing a "game changer" is needed to help retain and draw new residents in the face of sluggish population growth. Brandenburg argues scrapping the income tax would boost the state economy by giving residents more disposable income to spend at Michigan businesses. The second-term Harrison Township Republican plans to introduce legislation this month and convene a work group to consider tax policy options.
As part of his plan to scrap the state's 4.25 percent personal income tax, Brandenburg told The Detroit News he may propose to increase the state's 6 percent sales tax to offset some of the anticipated revenue loss from killing the income tax. He anticipates budget cuts would also be necessary.
"After six years of tax increases, working families and seniors absolutely deserve a tax break from this administration," Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich, D-Flint said.
Michigan collected more than $9.3 billion in personal income taxes in the 2016 fiscal year, according to the non-partisan Senate Fiscal Agency. It was the largest single source of revenue for the state.
Most income tax revenue goes toward the state's general fund, which is used to pay for various government functions. Roughly 30 percent goes to the School Aid Fund for K-12 education. Sales taxes generated about $7.3 billion last fiscal year, by comparison, with roughly 73 percent going to schools, 16 percent to the general fund and 10 percent to local units of government.
"the issue is where do you get the money to run government?" Snyder told The News in a year-end interview. "Those are the challenges." More
COMMENT: We want to help!!!
With all due respects, Governor, That is not the most important issue. What is State government doing it does not have to do? What can you cut? When will you implement a zero-based review of budgets, contracts and expenditures? Why are you paying contractors 25%+/- more than you need to through artificial "prevailing wages"? When will state employee compensation and benefits come in line with those you supposedly serve? Why give a billion dollar$ a year to certain favored businesses and individuals? Why keep up the appearance (and costs) of full time legislature at full pay, that has sessions less than 90 days a year? Why does every legislator need to have an office with a view of the Capitol? Why keep increasing education budgets $250 million each year when student population is decreasing by thousands of students and quality is flat-lined? The list could go on. The fact of the matter is, the Michigan State Government has become bloated and wasteful and more intrusive under Republican leadership. It is not a good legacy.
++ U.S. Reps. Jack Bergman of Watersmeet in the far west U.P. and Paul Mitchell of Dryden in the lower Thumb, both Republicans, were sworn into the 115th Congress by House Speaker Paul Ryan, taking over seats previously held by Reps. Dan Benishek and Candice Miller, both of whom stepped down.
"I ran on a platform that said we're going to hold government accountable," said Bergman, when asked about priorities as he settled into his office. "We have over-regulation. We have the federal government in too much of our business. ... I'm warmed up, ready to go."
For Mitchell, it means focusing on business incentives and rolling back regulations that he believes are holding automakers and others back. Mitchell also said he's ready to get rid of the Affordable Care Act - also known as Obamacare - though he recognizes that may take some time, saying President Barack Obama's administration "killed the previous system, so you can't just go back ... ++ More of the same liberalism - Gov. Rick Snyder wants Republican President-elect Donald Trump and the GOP-led Congress to spare Michigan's Medicaid expansion as they consider dismantling the Affordable Care Act, calling it a successful program that could serve as a national model.
Trump has repeatedly vowed to repeal and replace "Obamacare" but has not made clear whether he wants to pull back state funding for expanded Medicaid eligibility. It is a key but costly provision of the 2010 law that has allowed millions of low-income residents to qualify for government-paid health care coverage.
Robust enrollment figures mean Michigan will have to spend more on Medicaid expansion than originally anticipated. The federal government has fully funded the program so far, minus some administrative costs, spending around $4 billion a year in Michigan...The federal government fully paid for Medicaid expansion for the past few years. But the funding rates for expanded Medicaid eligibility will drop to 95 percent this year and 90 percent by 2020 and beyond. That will leave states on the hook to make up the difference, a cost that will eventually approach an estimated $400 million in Michigan.
Many conservatives believe fuel tax increases are shills to cover this.
"Michigan lawmakers should begin looking for an escape hatch from the state's Obamacare expansion as soon as possible," Jonathan Ingram, vice president of research, told The News, suggesting the state could close the program to new enrollees while awaiting congressional action.
"As the state share begins to kick in, higher costs will start to put fiscal pressure on other core priorities, including education, public safety and even services for seniors and individuals with disabilities."
State Sen. Patrick Colbeck, a Canton Republican critic of the Affordable Care Act, accused budget officials of "back filling" the Healthy Michigan plan to hide the fact "it's costing us a heck of a lot more than we thought it would." He called Medicaid expansion a "horrible failure." "Medicaid provides coverage, it doesn't provide care," he said. "And from an expense perspective, we're going to be on the hook for well over $300 million from our general fund to go off and pay for this
Snyder has not yet personally discussed Medicaid expansion with Trump or Michigan's congressional delegation, but he and other state leaders had a "robust" discussion about Medicaid expansion at a National Governors Association meeting in late November, according to his office. More
COMMENT: For decades hospitals across Michigan and the USA have paid NO income, property or sales taxes. The understanding was that these savings were to fund indigent care. Then hospitals double dipped by jacking up prices for paying and insured patients - the infamous $50 aspirin and $1000 bandage wrap. Medicaid Expansion now lets hospitals triple dip. And, Hospitals are gobbling up local medical practices, turning them into "clinics' and taking them off the tax rolls. The void (plus TIFA schemes) puts pressure on other taxpayers to fund schools, counties, cities and townships. Thus we have increased Federal and State taxes but also hidden consumer taxes with higher insurance and medical care costs.
A notable court case included a suit between Wexford County and it's biggest hospital. The County wanted the Hospital to pay property taxes because they were not getting many indigent patients. The evidence indicated that Wexford provided no-cost services to only two people in 2000, and eleven people in 2001, which amounted to writing off $129.13 in 2000, and $2,229.09 in 2001....Further, it is undisputed that Wexford's aim is to become profitable."
The Court concluded that petitioner's "operations parallel a typical private medical clinic, rather than an organization that provides public health services" and that "the services that Wexford claims as serving public health purposes were 'inherent to the medical profession." Id. at 3. Therefore, petitioner's appeal was rejected.
The Michigan Supreme Court granted petitioner's application for leave to appeal, 472 Mich. 899, 696 N.W.2d 708 (2005), as well as motions by various amici curiae to file briefs. Briefs were received from amici Michigan Rural Health Clinics Organization, McLaren Health Care Corporation, Michigan Health & Hospital Association, and Michigan Association of Homes and Services for the Aging in support of petitioner (all recipients of the scheme), and by amici Michigan Municipal League and Michigan Townships Association in support of respondent.
The Court stated: "Because the Legislature chose not to define the terms "charitable institution," found in MCL 211.7o, or "public health purposes," found in MCL 211.7r, the specific meaning of these phrases has been the subject of decades of case law..."

Because the definitions were left out of the laws, the courts and bureaucracy were free to define them, as were the recipients of the plunder.

++ Todd Courser 'very ill,' drops lawsuit against Michigan House, attorney say -

Todd is very ill right now," his attorney, Matthew DePerno, told the Grand Rapids Press and MLive on Wednesday, Dec. 14.He said Courser has suffered a heart condition the past couple of years, and his condition has only worsened with criminal charges and fallout of an affair with former state Rep. Cindy Gamrat.Courser originally faced four charges in Ingham County Court but now faces only a perjury charge there and a misconduct charge in Lapeer County. Other charges were dismissed."It's more vindictive than anything. The guy has gone through a lot. What grows government, raises taxes, add nuisance regulations and/or restricts freedoms can be expected to get a low rating.

++ A legislator asked for input on policy matters for the next session. Here was one great response: Joni Jones1.) Repeal Common Core in Michigan; 2.) Open up FOIA to legislators and Governor's office; 3.) Transition all remaining defined-benefit pensions to defined-contribution/401K Plans; 4.) Repeal the Land Bank Authority Law; 5.) End the MCCA fee of $160 per car!!; 6.) Repeal SB 437 & 438 (energy package just passed) and deregulate Michigan's electric market for 100% choice; 7.) Repeal HB 4736 (registration fee increase) and HB 4738 (gas tax increase). 8.) Strengthen the Voter ID requirement. 9.) Reduce the state income tax rate, as promised. Loving it!
Your editor has another to suggest. In litigation individuals and partnerships can represent themselves. Corporations cannot. Some courts handle LLC's as if they are corporations, even if they are a one person, two person or family entity. In small collections matters the attorney fees can be greater than the prospects for collections. A one sentence addition to the LLC laws would allow a closely held LLC to represent themselves, if competent. It is a change long overdue. Let's enable small businesses to thrive in Michigan and provide needed jobs. The success of business also guarantees government revenue. It is a win-win possibility.

Michigan Conservative Union has advocated for eliminating the state income tax several times over several years. Promised cuts were not given. Property taxes are also terrible. Governments are trigger happy on grabbing peoples' land. As a county planning commission chair your editor went to a statewide planners conference where a primary presenter said the property all belongs to the government, and it is on loan to people and businesses who "rent" property through property taxes. Such is the sick mentality of those who ignore property rights - real. personal and intellectual.
