 Climate Change Survey

You are invited to participate in our online Climate Change survey. Your participation will help us understand our community's attitude, knowledge and behaviour relating to climate change and will inform the development services that are aligned with community needs.

The results will be used to guide the provision of services that respond to our community's needs in relation to climate change impacts, such as coping with heatwaves and storm events.

The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and is available until 18 December 2017.

To participate online please visit www.makingmarion.com.au. Please feel free to participate and share with your networks.

For further information, or for a hard copy, please contact Natalie Iglio, Environmental Engagement Officer at [email protected].

Hooded Plovers at Hallett Cove

Nesting Hooded Plovers have been spotted in Hallett Cove on the sand dunes at the mouth of the Field River. These nationally vulnerable birds have been at this site since mid-October, appearing to be very happy in their new home.

Hooded Plovers are a major focus species of the NRM Board and are also protected under the Federal Environment and Biodiversity protection Act (1999).  Fewer than 50 birds are left on the Fleurieu Peninsula and only two pairs exist in the Adelaide Region, one at Port Stanvac and one at Seacliff. To help with their protection, council has zoned off the immediate area around their nest.

It is thought that the dunes are being used by the Hooded Plovers to raise their young, with the rocky areas providing protection from people and dogs which are the greatest threat to this species causing them to abandon their nests. If you happen to see them, p lease watch from afar and make sure your dog is on a lead to help protect this rare species.

If you are interested in the protection of precious Remnant Native Vegetation to help birds such as the Hooded Plover, please have your say on our current consultation about our Remnant Native Vegetation Plan. Find out more at: www.marion.sa.gov.au/remnant-native-vegetation-plan
