Helping Hungry Kids - Saturday, January 21st
 
The "Helping Hungry Kids" monthly food drive program provides food for over 350 students with weekend food bags every week! We have the opportunity to help students in Fairfax County and Loudoun County by unloading food donations and packing lunches at Heritage today, Saturday, January 21st from 3:30pm - 5:00pm.
Scholarship Information
 
Joyce & Thomas Moorhead Foundation Scholarship
The Joyce and Thomas Moorehead Foundation scholarships are open to graduating high school seniors enrolling in both two-year and four-year colleges and universities.  Initial eligibility guidelines for students include:
  • At least a 2.5 GPA during their senior year.
  • Those who demonstrate both financial need and academic merit.
  • Those who exhibit leadership ability and community engagement.
  • Those who have the potential to succeed in higher education.
The application packet must include: a completed application form, an essay, a photograph of the applicant, school transcript, and letters of recommendation.
 
All Application materials must be "POSTMARKED" by March 1, 2017.
 
Northern Virginia Urban League Scholarship
The Northern Virginia Urban League is holding a scholarship competition with a $5000 scholarship award. To be eligible, applications must:
  • Be graduating from an accredited public or private high school in a northern Virginia school system at the end of the 2016-2017 school year.
  • Be accepted to or have applied to an accredited college/university in the United States as a member of the 2016-2017 freshman class.
  • Plan to enroll in a full-time college program leading to a bachelor's degree.
  • Be an African-American student who is a United States citizen.
  • A 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale in addition to the above criteria.
The application must be received at the Northern Virginia Urban League Office no later than 4:00 p.m., Friday, February 3, 2017.
Essay Contest
 
The International Church Ushers Association of VA will conduct the State Youth Essay Competition on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 10:00am at Heritage. First and second place winners advance to Eastern Region Competition. Those winners move on to the National Competition at the 2017 National Convention in Rochester, NY. The scholarship awards are $5,000 for 1 st place, $4,000 for 2 nd place, $2,500 for 3 rd place, and $1,500 for 4 th place.
