Winter Storms and High Tides Predicted this Weekend and Next Week 

R ain storms will return late Friday January 6 and will last through next week along with high tides predicted between January 6 - 15.  These storm and tide conditions may impact traffic and parking in flood-prone areas. Please anticipate flooding, road closures, power outages and other storm-related issues.  Please do what you can today to prepare your home, family and business.
City Council to Discuss the City's Steps, Lanes and Paths

At their upcoming meeting on January 17, 2017, the City Council will have a broad reaching discussion regarding the City's Steps, Lanes and Paths Program. 

The City is committed to our network of Steps, Lanes and Paths (SLPs) and will discuss recent improvements to our SLPs and proposed maintenance and improvement projects to this network. 

Announcing the New City of Mill Valley Website!
The City of Mill Valley is pleased to announce the launch of our new website. The site's responsive design makes it easier to access information on your desktop, laptop, or mobile device. Improvements to navigation and content are based on input from public surveys, website traffic data, and staff experience answering your questions.  The new site also integrates Google's Custom Search Engine so now you can search the website to find what you are looking for. 


A Note About Email Notifications for Public Meetings and News Items
If you previously signed up to receive email notifications for meeting agendas or specific news categories (i.e. road closures, emergency preparedness) on the old website, you will need to go to the "MyCity Portal" to create an account to set up email preferences for special notifications.

RSVP Parking Permits Are Available for 2017

Residential Parking Permits are now available for the new year! Residents must live within the specified eligible zones to obtain a permit. To see if you qualify, click here

The new permits are valid until January 31, 2018 and cost $20.00 per vehicle. Applications for permits can be made in person at the Mill Valley Police Department or submitted by mail. Visit the Police Department's website to learn more.

5th Annual Family Fun Run and Health Fair

Start the New Year off right with friends, family and community members! Join us for the 5th Annual Family Fun Run and Health Fair Saturday January 14th. Health Fair is from 9:00-2:00pm with free public admittance. Over 60 booths ranging from nutrition, mental wellness, exercise and bodywork to sustainable living, healthy lifestyle coaching and energy work. Each booth will have a free sample or service for you to try their service or product. Fun Run distances range from a competitive timed 5k or 1.5 miler to Toddler Dashes and Stroller friendly jogs. Each registrant gets a few free goodies along with a race T-shirt. Pre-registration recommended. Fun to do as a group or family.

Lego Robotics Workshop

Mill Valley Recreation & The Buddy Club have partnered to offer exciting live entertainment for families this Winter.  The first show of a four part series will feature the amazing Bubble Lady. Be prepared to experience bubbles like you've never seen.  Everything from dancing bubbles, trick bubbles, love bubbles and even people in bubbles to name just a few. Warning...Laughter and feeling good is a by-product of this show.

Becoming Part of the Climate Solution

Climate change can feel like an overwhelming problem, but there are some simple actions that anyone can do to help combat it, making one's household and community greener, safer and more resilient. In this five-session course, participants will go on a "low carbon" diet to reduce at least 5,000 lbs. of CO2 in a fun and supportive atmosphere. Participants will learn ways to reduce their carbon emissions and save money by trimming energy and waste, conserving water and driving smarter.

The course will be conducted by the Resilient Neighborhoods program, which has helped 650 Marin residents reduce more than 2.8 million pounds of carbon emissions. It will be beneficial to people who are just beginning to think about their carbon footprint as well as those who have already made a commitment to sustainable living. Sessions will be held in the Creekside room from 7-9 pm on 1/26, 2/9, 2/23, 3/9 and 3/23. Participants must commit to attending all five sessions and have access to their utility bills and a computer.

City Council Meeting - January 3, 2017

The City Council received a presentation of an Annual Report from the Mill Valley representative on the Marin County Commission on Aging. Council received a presentation of the Arts Commission Annual Report. Council recognized and expressed thanks to the Municipal Services Tax Study Committee and to the Committee for a Safe Mill Valley/Yes on Measure H for their assistance in the passage of Measure H.


Council adopted a Resolution declaring the results of a Special Election in the City of Mill Valley Community Facilities District No. 2016-1 (Municipal Services) and directed the recording of a Notice of Special Tax Lien. Council approved a tentative Labor Memorandum of Understanding with American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.

Council accepted a donation of $9,920 to the Mill Valley Library to digitize the Mill Valley Record/Herald archives. Council conducted a second reading of an Ordinance outlining regulations governing accessory dwelling units in the City of Mill Valley. Council accepted a $22,146 grant from US Homeland Security for an automated license plate reader system.

Council established a rental rate for the new term of the existing lease for the Depot building. Council authorized issuance of a Request for Proposals for assistance in development of the Drainage and Flood Control Master Plan. Council conducted a first reading of an Ordinance acting in the capacity as the legislative body of the City of Mill Valley Community Facilities District No. 2016-1 (Municipal Services) authorizing the levy of a Special Tax within that District.

Council adopted an Urgency Ordinance and an Ordinance outlining regulations surrounding Proposition 64 in the City of Mill Valley. Council adopted an Ordinance adopting new green building standards (continued from the December 5, 2016 regular City Council meeting).




Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting - January 4, 2016

The Parks and Recreation Commission approved use requests for Old Mill Park by 2017 annual users for various Dipsea runs and hikes as well as for the 2017 Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival. The Commission approved the Youth Sports Leagues 2017 Field Allocation Schedule and the Commission's 2017 Meeting schedule. An update on soil mounds at Bayfront Meadow was received and a discussion on Section I of the Parks and Recreation Commission's draft rules was held.

Planning Commission Meeting - January 10, 2017 

The Planning Commission is scheduled to hold Study Session reviews for the following:  1) demolish an existing one-story 1,136 square foot house and a non-conforming 426 square foot garage at 129 La Goma Ave, and replace it with a new 2,255 square foot house with an attached 354 square foot garage;  and, 2) construct a new two-story 2,840 square foot house with an attached 501 square foot garage on a vacant site at 201 Marion Ave.



City Council Meeting - January 17, 2016

The City Council will receive an introduction of Tom Levin, the City's new Wastewater Treatment Plant Senior Civil Engineer. Council will receive a presentation of the Annual Parks and Recreation Commission Report and the Annual Library Board Report. Council will receive an update on the Miller Avenue Streetscape Project. 

Council will conduct a second reading of an Ordinance acting in their capacity as the Legislative Body of the City of Mill Valley Community Facilities District No. 2016-1 (Municipal Services) authorizing the levy of a Special Tax within that District.

Council will conduct a second reading of an Ordinance outlining regulations surrounding Proposition 64 in the City of Mill Valley and a second reading of an Ordinance adopting new Green Building Standards in the City of Mill Valley. 

Council will consider a Resolution approving the Labor Agreement Memorandum of Understanding with American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.  Council will consider a tentative Labor Agreement with the Mill Valley Fire Chief Officers Association and Confidential and Part-time Staff. 

Council will consider a Resolution setting the new Community Facilities District (Municipal Service) Special Tax for the next tax year and a Resolution setting the old Community Facilities District (Municipal Service) Special Tax at $0 for the next fiscal year. 

Council will discuss the outcomes of the 2017 Annual City Council Retreat, as well as City Council meeting dates for 2017. Council will conduct a discussion of the City's Steps, Lanes and Paths Program.
