Weekend Weather Update

Lots of Rain Coming - Be Prepared!

Undoubtedly you've heard that a very big weather system is headed for our region.  As of 2 PM this afternoon, the National Weather Service is projecting that the Napa County will receive approximately 1-1 1/2 inches of rain early Saturday, experience a lull period and then the main storm is expected to hit between midnight and sunrise Sunday morning, bringing with it 2 to 3 1/2 inches of rain.  That's a lot of rain!  Of course, there are many variables that could shift the storm, but whether we get less rainfall or more rainfall, no doubt it's going to be wet this weekend.

We are working hard to prepare the City.  Crews have been checking all storm drains, creek crossings, and pump stations.  Sand bag stations are completely stocked and barricades have been stowed so we can quickly close streets if they become flooded.  Crews and emergency personnel have been assigned stand-by duty and will be taking care of problem areas as quickly as they can.

If you are worried about your home or yard or if you have traditionally had water issues during rain storms, we encourage you to get prepared.  Setting up sand bags and making sure the storm drains in front of your home are clear can really help to keep the water flowing.

Leaves
Leaves clogging the storm drains is the number one cause of street flooding.  You can help keep your street flowing by picking up fallen leaves and disposing of all yard waste in your Recology green waste disposal cart.

Sand Bag Stations
Sandbag filling stations are available next to City Hall, 4381 Broadway (24/7) and at the Corporation Yard at 205 Wetlands Edge (Mon-Fri, 8 AM -4 PM). You need to bring a shovel and gloves.
