Recruiting Tip #2

"Keep interactions formal with college coaches until a relationship is developed. Once a coach communicates with you on a more personal level, so can you! Always show respect though! They may become your future coach!"

Building a Bond
Team bonding activities like pancake breakfasts with 14 Jimmy , laser tag with 14 Sarah, volunteering in the community like 14 Heather, or walking the Encinitas Holiday Parade,  not only help bring the team together for better on court performance - they are what make us the WAVE NATION!

14 Sarah
14 Heather

When that whistle blows to signal that first serve of a tournament it sure helps to know your team has your back on and off the court.

Qualifying Tournaments Begin for 11-14U
Teams began the early morning drives up to Anaheim and surrounding areas on December 17-18.  Congratulations to all our teams for making it through that nerve racking first tournament of the year.

Tournament Team Spotlight

14 Morgan started out with a loss in the morning that fueled a 180 in their play and found them winning their next two matches to place 2nd in their pool.

13 Tammy finished 2nd in their pool after winning 2
matches and losing 1.  The team's potential is exciting due in a big part to their desire and determination to improve.

12 Morgan Ex perienced those nerves in a tough loss to start the morning, yet bounced back winning the next two matches - the final one being a tight 3 set match that was a great way to end the day winning and placing 2nd in their pool.

18 WAVE vs. WAVE Alumni
Holiday season is a time for tradition and the Alumni match is that at WAVE.  It's a time to catch up with friends from the past over some friendly competition and look to the future during the alumni match!  Thank you to all that came out to watch some high quality volleyball.

Boys
Boys Holiday Classic Tournament Results

18 Jed

Finished 19th overall after some great pool play which ended in a three way tie for first which was the difference between making the top 10.  The team is using that tie to fuel their preparation for the SCVA & JO Bids this month.

18 Grey

Playing, Learning and Growing as they had some ups and downs and all arounds finishing 53rd overall.

17 Kevin

The WAVE 17's team earned an eighth place finish at the Boy's Holiday Classic.  It is the high finish for this team and was watched closely by the Loyola, Morningside, UCI, Northridge, IPFW, Charleston, NYU, Lincoln Memorial College, Pepperdine, Cal Baptist, Lees-Mcrae and other high-level college programs.  The team is gearing up for the NCVA Bid Tournament and SCVA Junior Boy's Invitational Bid Tournament.   #WEAREGOOD #EMBRACETHETARGET #DREAMBIG #WINFOREVER

16 Brennan
Tied for 3rd to earn a banner after grinding during  their play against some tough teams on the last day.  Beating Rockstar 16-14 in the third set to get to the semis was a highlight and huge accomplishment.  Losing in three in the semis only showed us and the rest of the country this team is right there ready to break through and be a top team in the country.

16 Nate

For a first big tournament under new leadership, the team worked out some kinks and has room to improve upon their 56th place finish.

15 Chris
Isn't it ironic? 15 Chris finished 15th overall!

14 Skyler
The guys crushed it in pool play with multiple players seeing some court time and chipping in to go 6-0 in the first two rounds.  Playoffs became more intense, with a tough first round playoff battle that brought their tournament run to an end, finishing 5th overall.
Beach
Beach Club Season Registration
Spring Beach Club started up January 3rd and runs through the end of May.   Registration is open!

The tournament calendar for Beach is quite busy this winter/spring.  Check out the soon to be updated list of tournaments here if you are interested in playing.

WAVE Beach Dominates at CBVA Polar Bear
The tournament lived up to its name with a chilly day of volleyball at Mission Beach.  While the weather may have been chilly, WAVE Beach players were on fire comprising 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams in the 14s and 16s divisions, 2nd and 3rd in the 18s, and winning the father/daughter.
Way to Represent!!!

Movement of the Month

Modified Side Plank with Hip Abduction
This is a great exercise to improve QL strength as well as transverse abdominal and oblique strength. Focusing on improving postural alignment and trunk stability is essential. Loading the abductor complex improves dynamic stability in a lateral movement as well as strength in the hip stabilizers.
