An Invitation From the Dean
|
Dear friends in Christ,
Our annual Quest class for adults will begin on January 15.
Who should participate in Quest? Quest is for adults who wish to be baptized, confirmed, or welcomed into the Episcopal Church from other Christian traditions. Quest is a great class for those who want to go deeper in their own spiritual formation. Quest is also recommended for adults who may have experienced significant life changes such as marriage, the birth of a child, career changes, a move, or the death of a spouse. See below for a quote from Nicole Redus who joined the Cathedral Quest class last year.
We want to specifically invite
you to participate. Weekly gatherings will occur on Sundays just after the 10 am service for approximately 90 minutes. Our time together will include a light lunch, teaching by the clergy of the cathedral, and plenty of time for you to ask your own questions. Regular attendance is important but don't hesitate to sign up even if you know you will miss a couple of sessions. The clergy will be happy to help you get up to speed for the next class. We will begin on
Sunday, January 15th and continue through April 2nd.
Baptisms for adults will occur at the Easter Vigil, Saturday evening April 15
th.
Confirmations, reception to the Episcopal Church and reaffirmation of faith will occur at the Bishop's visitation on Sunday, June 4
th.
Please email the Dean's assistant,
Kathy Noe, and let us know of your intention to participate in Quest. We're very excited about this year's Quest class!
Warmest regards,
Gail Greenwell, Dean
"Quest was an invaluable experience which laid the foundation of my faith as an Episcopalian. It provided me with a better understanding of what it means to be in relationship with God and the necessary behavioral shift to prepare for Baptism. I greatly appreciated the love and compassion that was poured into me by all of the Clergy, and fellow attendees. This was a wonderfully enriching experience". Nicole Redus, new cathedral member.

We are committed to reaching out to multiple faith-based groups and through diverse community networks. The bus including cathedral members and friends will leave on Friday morning,
January 20

Was one of your new year's resolutions to help others? Or to volunteer your own
time or find an event that you and your
family could participate in together? If so, here's an opportunity for you! Christ Church Cathedral is proud to be a partner church working with the Interfaith
Hospitality Network (IHN), and our first
hosting opportunity is
January 22-28
.
In an effort to kick off the new year, all current IHN volunteers and those that wish to learn more about this ministry are invited to a brief meeting on Sunday morning,
January 22, at 11:30 am in the Cathedral Café, following the 10:00 am
service.
There we review key procedures, answer questions and share ideas. We appreciate the participation of our members and friends as we strive to create a positive and welcoming space to those families who are currently experiencing homelessness, as they
look to find and retain stable housing
and rebuild their lives. Questions about volunteering? Please contact Elizabeth Brown.

You Are Cordially Invited
|
January 22
There was a time when Sunday morning weddings were normal in the life of the church. As a sacrament, marriage was considered part of the worship life of the church community. The cathedral has an opportunity to experience this older tradition when, on
January 22
, cathedral member and chorister Amanda Carmen Bower weds Christian Philip Pursell, in a ceremony to take place during the
10:00 am worship service. The couple
cordially invites cathedral members and friends to attend their wedding at Christ Church Cathedral.
Please plan to attend and share in their joy!

The cathedral library is an
amazing source for our
members and friends, and
presents a great alternative to book purchasing or waiting for a book on hold at other libraries. That said, the policy for returning new books and bestsellers is within two weeks. If you feel you may require more time than that, please let others check out these in demand items
first. You may peruse the stacks and find
an older book you can enjoy at your leisure while you are waiting to check out that must read.
We ask that our members and friends try to return books in a timely manner so all can enjoy this great resource the church provides. Also, with the new year comes an opportunity for returning books that are currently checked out and/or overdue. Please check your nightstand, coffee table, or favorite reading spot for any books that belong to the cathedral library and return them as soon as possible. And lastly, If you would like to order a particular book that you think others would enjoy reading, please send an email or put a note on the library desk for Nancye Phillips or Jane Thompson. Happy reading!
