Welcome Carbon Valley Dreamers!

Fifty new Dreamers were officially welcomed as the new Carbon Valley Dreamer class this month at a special
Dedication Ceremony held at Frederick High School. Dreamers, their families, educators, volunteers, and Dreamer Sponsors enjoyed dinner together before the ceremony. Speakers included St. Vrain Valley School District Superintendent Dr. Don Haddad, Thunder Valley K-8 Principal Karen Musick, Dreamer Alumni Jacqueline Juarez, and Dreamer Parent Brenda Duarte . The Dreamers each shared what they want to be when they grow up, received a dedication certificate and shared the Dreamer Pledge. Be sure to read more and see a short video about the event in this Times-Call article covering the Dedication.

We're excited to announce that our organization has been named a finalist in First Western Trust's #WealthIsAbout Grants Contest. This contest gives us a chance to win $7,000 for our organization.

Celebrating Our Amazing Volunteer Table Captains & Underwriters

The Dream-Maker Luncheon wouldn't be possible without the support of our volunteer table captains who give of their time to invite guests to the event and our underwriters who support the costs of the event. Pasta Jay's in downtown Boulder helped us to thank these wonderful supporters of our event, by donating a delicious meal for a thank you dinner. Thank you again to everyone who was able to attend and celebrate the success of the Dream-Maker Luncheon!

If you are interested in learning more about underwriting opportunities and/or volunteering as a table captain for our upcoming Dream-Maker Breakfast in the spring of 2017, please contact Storey Blackwell 303-444-3636 x14 or storey@ihaveadreamboulder.org
Seeking 16 Dreamer Sponsors

Following the great success of the Dream-Maker Luncheon, where 44 donors signed up to be Dreamer Sponsors, we are still in need of 16 Dreamer Sponsors to help us launch our next Dreamer class.

Dreamer Sponsors commit to donating $3,000/year for 10 years, which provides year-round after school and summer programming and a $10,000 college scholarship for a student.

"The 'I Have a Dream' Foundation inspired me to keep working to achieve academic success and to go on to higher education. It motivated me to keep working hard and helped me maintain good grades."Vicky M., Broadway Dreamer Alumni

We Love Local Business Support!

A big thank you to the team at Sphero who participated in the Colorado Startup Games, battling other teams in games like foosball, cornhole, and more, raising $2,000 for "I Have a Dream" Foundation of Boulder County!

Lucky's Market Longmont selected "I Have a Dream" as the recipient for October's Impact Day, welcoming our team into their store to share our work with their customers and donating over $3,000 to support our programs.

Supporting Dreamer Families During Parent Teacher Conferences
Each semester the Dreamer class program teams provide support for families during Parent Teacher Conferences by attending the individual  conferences of Dreamers in partnership with the families. This allows the team to learn directly from the teachers about the progress of each Dreamer in each class, and engage in conversations about how to support Dreamer with the teachers and the Dreamer parents.

This connection helps our team facilitate teacher-family communication by providing translation if needed during the conferences and to help be advocates for additional services or resources if needed. This is also a great time for the Program Director to meet one-on-one with the Dreamer families to talk about their needs to help with on-going success of each and every Dreamer.
College and Career Saturday Academies

As part of our on-going support for Dreamers and their families applying for college, our College and Career department recently held their second Saturday Academy
, helping 15 students and families complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid  (FASFA) Application. Rigo Rangel, a representative from the Latin American Education Foundation also came in to talk to students and families about the scholarship resources available for students.

Halloween Incentive Trip a Success!

The Phoenix Dreamers went on an incentive field trip to Terror in the Corn over the weekend. Dreamers were encouraged to raise or maintain their grades and improve school attendance and positive behaviors in the after-school program.

Program Coordinator, Keelin McGill shared, "we started getting a ton of questions from Dreamers over the three weeks leading up to the trip about how they were doing in school and we saw extreme upward trends in grades!  B y the night of the field trip we had easily filled the 30 spots, and even had to add new spots for kids who had gone above and beyond.

When we arrived at Terror in the Corn excitement was almost too high to handle! The 36 of us, staff included, ran into Anderson Farms toward the corn maze. The kids were really good about calming staff down when we got too scared, and it was a great way to relieve some stress from school and reward the Dreamers who have been working so hard."

About the "I Have a Dream" Foundation of Boulder County
Since 1990, the award-winning "I Have a Dream" Foundation of Boulder County has assisted 900 children from low-income areas in achieving their education and career goals by providing long-term personal and academic support, tutoring, mentoring and four-year tuition-assistance scholarships to each graduating student. The organization sponsors entire groups of students from elementary schools or from low-income housing sites and works with these children and their families from elementary school through high school graduation and then "to and through" college. Currently, there are nine active "I Have a Dream" classes in the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley School Districts. The "I Have a Dream" Foundation of Boulder County has doubled expected graduation rates for its graduating classes of students and has awarded $2 million in scholarships. The program follows the national model established in New York in 1981 by founder Eugene Lang.
