Good Morning,
Just because we think something doesn't make it true nor does it make it right.
Tom Kida in his book "
Don't Believe Everything You Think: The 6 Basic Mistakes We Make in Thinking" lists the following mistakes which tend to influence our thinking:
- We prefer stories to statistics.
- We seek to confirm, not to question our ideas.
- We rarely appreciate the role of chance and coincidence in shaping events.
- We sometimes misperceive the world around us.
- We tend to oversimplify our thinking
- Our memories are often inaccurate.
I started off trying to elaborate on each but changed my mind. I ask each of you to look at your own thinking. Have you found any of these to be true? Without naming names and incriminating yourself or others, if you have a good example of how one of these has impacted your thinking, send me an email. Maybe we can use it, anonymously of course, down the road.
Have a great week.
Jim
