May 2015 Newsletter

Welcome to our May Newsletter.

With SX finishing up in Las Vegas May 2 attention turns to the Lucas Oil Outdoor Nationals. Many riders have already begun testing and riding longer motos in preparation.

Our featured rider this month is Kiwi James Anderson. Find out why he has earned the nickname "Pitbull".

It's always great to see MTF alumni back at MTF and this week Justin Barcia was kind enough to demonstrate how he seat bounces. Check out the instruction video below.

There are just a few camps left before Loretta's so check out the schedule below.

Thanks for reading and we'll see you at the races !

MTF NEWS

Last month's Newsletter initiated a lively discussion on Facebook about motocross safety. From the comments and likes we calculated the most often cited ideas for reducing major injuries at races. They are:

1. Safer, slower, better groomed tracks

2. Keep small, less experienced kids off bigger bikes for longer
3. Better flagging/race steward
4. Better ER at the track
5. Riders should wear more safety equipment

It would not take a lot for all of these ideas to be implemented.

Congratulations to Lorenzo Locurcio (above) who won the Open Pro Sport championship at the California Classic. The 18yr old from Venezuela finished 2,1,1 in the three moto format and also won two motos in the 450 Pro Sport Class. Lorenzo is currently featured in MotoPlayground magazine.

Franklin Nogueras is back at MTF after racing the British SX series. The popular rider from the Dominican Republic will prepare for some outdoor nationals on his Suzuki.

The Military Appreciation camp has been rescheduled. It will now take place at MTF May 7-9.

Instruction - Seatbouncing by Bryan Johnson (with Justin Barcia video)

Seat bouncing is a jumping technique where you make the bike go higher and further than would otherwise be possible for that particular speed.

It's achieved by compressing the rear suspension more on the face which will make it rebound  and carry you further.

Typically you'll want to do this when attempting to clear a jump right out of a corner that you don't quite have the speed for.

Supercross riders will seat bounce frequently while for amateur motocrossers it's a useful technique to know that can give you an edge.

Here's how to do it..................

Interview - James Anderson
James Anderson is 19 yrs old from Palmerston North, New Zealand.

He won the New Zealand junior supercross titles in 2009 and again in 2010 but in 2013 his family made the decision to come train in the US. At MTF he soon earned the nickname "Pitbull"........
