March 2015 Newsletter

March is here and with it hopefully some better weather for motocross riders everywhere. Down here in South Georgia we've been dealing with rain mostly but thanks to our great track crew we haven't missed a single day of riding.

This months instruction tip is about starts and how important it is to practice. One small technical mistake on the start and you can let every rider pass you.

Dakota Alix recently began his Supercross career and we caught up with the Red Bull and Orange Brigade KTM rider to see how it's going.

We have three One Week Camps left before Loretta's and they will likely fill up. And our 65 camp is set for May 28-30.

Thanks for reading and hope to see you at the races !

MTF NEWS

East Coast Supercross is already into the 3rd weekend  and our riders have fared well and learned a lot. Anthony Rodriguez (Yamalube Star Yamaha) has finished  13th, 8th and 8th, Dakota Alix (KTM FMF Orange Brigade) 20th, 14th and 22nd. Keith Tucker though will miss 3 weeks after suffering a broken collarbone last weekend.

Atlanta 2 was also the first race for rookie Jordon Smith. The Geico Honda rider broke his hand in the pre-season but is itching to get into the action this weekend. Proving there is always a learning curve for rookies Jordon got solid starts but was unable to make the main. Up next, Daytona.

MTF has a rig in the pits at this weekend's race and we'll be at Daytona too. Come by and see us and pick up a free poster. You can also enter to win a signed jersey from a pro rider.

The Davi Millsaps Spring National at Millcreek  wrapped up Saturday.  The week had a bit of everything weather wise including snow and rain. Jarrett Frye, TJ Rios, Fred and Luca Marsalisi, Jesse Kirchmeyer, Valentina Galaz, Lorenzo Locurcio, Felix Lopez, Dylan Walsh, Krystan Torres, Wilson Fleming, Reg Magyar, Jordon Orr are competing.

Riding Tip - Practice those Starts by Bryan Johnson

Getting a good start at any level of racing is of paramount importance but we are constantly amazed how few riders actually practice starts anywhere near enough.

Tight legs with toes in, good body position, use of the front brake, proper revs, starting in the right gear, "racing" the gate to the ground, getting a slight wheelie out of the gate and looking at the first turn are all techniques that take time to master. Putting them all together under pressure takes even longer.

Make sure to practice some starts every time you go to the track. If you are normally good at starts do about 5. If you're always at the back of the pack then think about doing 10 or more. Be careful to let the bike cool down after every couple of starts because you don't want it overheating.

Interview - Dakota Alix

Originally from Jay, Vermont Dakota Alix lives and trains at MTF. Colleen praises him for being one of the most disciplined hardest working riders at MTF and someone who has overcome a lot of adversity.

He came to MTF with the dream of making a successful pro career. He is almost there.
