Principal's Corner
Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.
~ Henry Ford
From the Desk of the Principal,
We would like to welcome everyone back from the winter break and sincerely hope that all were able to enjoy the time to relax and participate in some memorable activities with family and friends. As we move into the second half of the 2016-2017 school year, we want to welcome any families who are new to the Grand Prairie West campus and trust that you will find yourselves to be part of an outstanding and supportive learning community.
We are looking ahead! Students returned to school on January 3rd and we ask that our families to be mindful of re-establishing the necessary routines to ensure that your students (our scholars) are in attendance and on time each morning to get each school day off to a great start.
In addition to morning routines, we also ask our families to continue to be mindful of early dismissal habits as well. Although there are times when an occasional early dismissal is necessary for an appointment or urgency family needs, regular school attendance is critical and early dismissals should be "minimal: as this loss of instructional time can and will certainly affect a student's academic performance. As always, we appreciate you support as our teachers and scholars strive to maximize their instruction time shared each day.
In closing, we want to thank all of our families for all they you do in supporting our scholars and teachers as we look forward to an outstanding second semester here at GP West!
Educationally yours,
D. White, Principal
L. Dawn, Assistant Principal

Attendance in school is Essential!
- Scholars may arrive to school as early as 7:30 am for Breakfast
- Scholars leave the gymnasium at 7:45 am and go to class.
- 8:00 am is when students are late to school.
- Ten minutes late to any period is considered an ABSENCE.
Students report immediately to their 1st period and sign a tardy slip inside their classroom.
Please try to schedule appointments for students after school to ensure students receive maximum instructional time.
Dismissal is at 3:20 pm for K-4 and Grades 5-8 at 3:40 pm
Parents will not be allowed to pick up students after 3:00 pm. It is too difficult for staff to gather scholars while preparing for dismissal.
We appreciate your assistance in this matter.
