New Year, Fresh Start offers expungements for youth on MLK Day
As part of Project JRAP, Legal Action will be signing up public housing youth who have municipal tickets, meeting with them to determine if they are eligible for expungements, pulling and correcting criminal background reports, as well as other grant related representation. We will also have job readiness and financial literacy resources for youth.
The New Year, Fresh Start Youth Resource Fair will be held on MLK Day, Monday, January 16 from 9am to 4:30pm at Parklawn YMCA. For more information and to RSVP, click here.

Wisconsin tobacco prevention plan recognized for LGBT inclusion
The Wisconsin Tobacco Prevention and Control Program (WI TPCP) recently received an A in LGBT HealthLink's second state report card for LGBT inclusion. Wisconsin improved its grade from a C in 2014. The report evaluated state programs on seven criteria, with Wisconsin netting top scores in each area.
The City of Milwaukee Tobacco-Free Alliance has been a leader in promoting LGBTQ inclusion thanks to strong support from WI TPCP since 2014, when the LGBTQ Work Group formed to conduct a Community Readiness Assessment. Since then the group has continued to partner with local agencies including Diverse & Resilient, the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center, UWM LGBT Resource Center, ARCW and Milwaukee Pride. The work group is raising awareness to the higher rates of tobacco use in the LGBTQ community, most recently through a partnership with the UWM LGBT Resource Center to produce a PSA that will be shown at their annual Drag Show on February 18th at 7pm at the Milwaukee Theater.

The Milwaukee County Substance Abuse Prevention (MCSAP) Coalition is brings together resources, wisdom, talents, and passion to create a happy and healthy community. Our focuses are preventing teen marijuana use and prescription drug overdoses.
How can you support efforts to prevent teen drug use in Milwaukee? Join the Milwaukee County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (MCSAP) meeting on January 19 from 12pm-2:30pm at Employ Milwaukee, 2342 N 27th St, Milwaukee.

Remember Bree Newsome, the filmmaker, musician, speaker and activist that climbed the flagpole to remove the Confederate flag from the South Carolina state house grounds? She and Rev. Jim Wallis will speak to their deeply personal calls to action in overcoming racism ingrained in American society and their shared beliefs that America was founded by the near genocide of one people and the enslavement of another; that rooted into the founding documents of our nation is the notion that white lives matter more than others.
