The Birmingham Bar held their Annual Meeting on December 9, 2016. During this meeting the Birmingham Bar Volunteer Lawyers Program got the opportunity to thank our dedicated board, firms and volunteers. Without the support from our volunteers, the BBVLP would not have been able to serve over 2,500 low-income clients in the year of 2016! Congratulations to the below winners:

Bankruptcy 101 CLE: ABC's of Screening a Bankruptcy is Postponed till January 20th
Bankruptcy 101 CLE: ABS's of Screening a Bankruptcy will be postponed due to weather concerns. The CLE will now be held from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m on January 20th. At this CLE you will learn how to screen clients for possible Chapter 7 bankruptcies in preparation for the BBVLP's new 2017 monthly Pro Bono Bankruptcy Help Desk. The new clinic, for low-income clients, is beginning in February on the first Friday of every month at the Federal Bankruptcy Court.

Learn how to provide legal assistance to veterans and their families in preparation for the BBVLP's new Veterans Help Desk. This Help Desk will be on the fourth Wednesday of every month at the Birmingham VA Medical Center.

The client's spouse had a wreck last week and was charged with a DUI. All of their children were in the vehicle with no seat belts on. The spouse is addicted to drugs and alcohol and has abused the woman throughout the marriage. (17-0007655)
