"Our American legal system is one with complex rules and procedures that most individuals are unable to understand and many Alabama citizens struggle with the cost of paying an attorney for their matter.  A law firm's commitment to assist as many of these individuals as reasonable is so important to the success of the justice system and critical to the individual client in navigating through the system."

- Edward Merrell, Merrell Law Firm

"To me, volunteering means an opportunity to give back to my community. It gives me perspective. By volunteering I get a different view of the law and the world than I get in my daily practice, and I am reminded why I became an attorney and what a privileged life I live."

- Julie Carter, Bradley

"There are many clients that I often think about and hope that they are doing well and that I have provided them with answers and helped them resolve their problem. I truly enjoy volunteering with BBVLP because the program benefits so many people in Jefferson County who otherwise could not afford legal assistance."

- Melinda Guillaume

"Volunteering is a great way to give back as a lawyer, especially as the legal system can be very confusing, intimidating, and of course expensive to many people. I enjoy helping others in need navigate this system and knowing that I hopefully made the legal process just a little easier and smoother for those who need it most."

- James Illston, Merrell Law Firm
