State & National Reports
Michigan in Context
American Association of State Colleges and Universities (January 2017)
While Michigan is not mentioned, this document projects the most common issues states will face for higher education in the forthcoming year.
The New York Times (January 18, 2017)
Using data from the
Equality of Opportunity Project, all colleges and universities can be profiled by economic diversity and outcomes. Unlike some national peers, all Michigan public universities have more students from the bottom 60% by income than from the top 1% by income.

Quotable Quotes
"Thirty years ago, 80 percent of tuition was paid for by the state. That number has flipped, and we wonder why tuition is so expensive.
We're the reason that's happening." - Sen. Curtis Hertel, Jr. (D-East Lansing)
"We say that if we raise taxes, businesses will pass those costs onto their customers," Hauck said. "It's the same with tuition and universities. That's where we need to stop that and raise funding for higher education." - Rep. Roger Hauck (R-Mount Pleasant)
