Steve Bradford (BA '85)
was sworn in as California's newest state senator. Bradford previously was a member of the State Assembly and also served 12 years on the Gardena City Council, the first African-American elected to that body.
Earl Ofari Hutchinson (MA '90) wrote "The Obama Legacy," in which he shows how the 44th president of the United States should be remembered. In the book, readers can find a rich analysis of several big-ticket issues that rocked the Obama presidency and excerpts from his signature speeches during his years in office. In addition to being an author, Hutchinson is also a political analyst, contributing writer to the Huffington Post and The Wave, associate editor of New America Media, and a radio host.
Walter Muneton (BA '16) was sworn in as trustee for the Garden Grove Unified School District. The swearing-in ceremony marks the beginning of his four-year term. Muneton is a proud graduate of Santiago High School and has worked as a caseworker and truancy reduction officer for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Garden Grove.
Jeanette Rowe (BA '01) is retiring after 19 years as outreach director with the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority. She was recently featured in the Los Angeles Times for her pioneering work of finding homeless people in the streets and helping them navigate the social service system.
Jim Tanizaki (BA '77) was appointed to the position of chief assistant district attorney in Orange County, where he previously served as the senior assistant district attorney.
Melissa Zak (MA '99) was named the University of Colorado Boulder Assistant Vice Chancellor of Safety. She will oversee the planning, organization and coordination of all campus safety functions, including the police and environmental health and safety departments, and will manage the campus's response to crises and emergencies. For the past three years, Zak has served as the university's police chief, helping lead the campus through crises and high-profile events such as floods, a presidential debate, and demonstrations.
