ANNUAL STATE OF THE SCHOOL PRESENTATION

BE THERE AND WIN A CHROMEBOOK
 
The annual  State of the School Address will be held on Wednesday, January 25th at 6:00 pm in the Moorer Center for Performing Arts . This presentation is for parents of all K2-11th graders and will provide an overview of where our school has been, where we are going, and why you'll want to join us on the journey!  We will also cover important information for the upcoming school year including 2017-2018 tuition and Re-enrollment Days.  We are requesting that at least one parent from each family be in attendance.   
Every parent in attendance will receive one ticket for our Chromebook raffle!  Must be present to win.  As always, Mr. Notaro will do his best to meet a one hour time frame.

Childcare will be provided on the University Campus during the presentation.

K2-2nd grade will be in the Dining Hall.
3rd-5th grade will be in the Gym.
Middle School will have a supervised study hall in the Library.


RE-ENROLLMENT DAYS

Re-enrollment Days are scheduled for February 1st and 2nd.  These days are set aside for current families to return 2017-2018 enrollment contracts.  We'll be sending more details after the State of the School presentation....but save the date so you can make plans to return your contract(s) and enjoy a cup of coffee and a pastry!

MOTHER OAK ANNUAL FUND UPDATE
We continue to move toward reaching our MOAF goal of $100,000. If you haven't pledged or donated yet, please make your pledge or donation as soon as possible and help us reach our goal!



Geography Bee
Congratulations to all of the participants in this year's 5th-8th Grade Geography Bee: 5th grader Bryce De upree, 6th graders:John Henry Johnson and Stone Smith, 7th graders Tyler Bracknell, Connor Ferguson, Matthew Knotts, & Kevin Ori and 8th graders Davis Ashcraft , Brice Knotts, and Garrett Upshaw.  Connor Ferguson won for the second year in a row and will represent St. Luke's by taking the qualifying test at the state level.     
               

SOCKS FOR SENIORS
University Campus students are collecting socks for senior citizens during the month of January.  Socks must be new and can be dropped off in the Student Service office. 


GRANDPARENTS DAY IS COMING!
Our annual K2-5th Grade Grandparents Day is just around the corner. This year, we will celebrate on Friday, February 24th from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. The day includes a special Grandparents Reception, musical presentations, classroom visits and our annual Krewe of Kindergarteners Mardi Gras parade. 

Be sure to return the invitation form with the names and addresses of your child's grandparents (or grand friends) so that we can invite them to join us in the celebration.
 
NATIONAL SIGNING DAY
St. Luke's currently has 4 students planning to participate in this year's National Signing Day.  Camille Hunter and Jordan Odom will commit to play collegiate volleyball.  Carly Salter will commit to a collegiate equestrian team and Conner Sells will commit to a collegiate golf team.   As has become a St. Luke's tradition, our student-athletes will sign their commitment papers during a Middle and Upper School assembly so that all of our 6th-12th grade students, faculty and staff can participate and share in their excitement!  Parents are welcome to join us.  The ceremony will take place February 1st at 8:05 am in the Moorer Center. 

MANDATORY CEU- JANUARY 30TH at 7:00 PM

8th-11th GRADE  CEU-  COURSE SELECTION- Moorer Center
This mandatory CEU will include overviews of the core curriculum and elective course offerings for next year and information regarding what college admission offices are looking for on high school transcripts. Students will be provided with their course selection forms and will select their courses for next year. Parents are invited to attend. Any students unable to attend must notify Mrs. Banks prior to the CEU. 

12th GRADE CEU- COLLEGE 101-Dining Hall
This mandatory CEU will cover some of the basics of college life:  financial and banking information, social life and how to get involved, etc.  Any student unable to attend must notify Mrs. Banks or Mrs. Moseley prior to the CEU.
****7th and 8th Grade Football Meeting (Parents and Players)****

 On January 26th @ 6:00 pm in the Moorer Center,  Coach Ronn Lee will host a VERY IMPO R TANT football interest/informational meeting for current 6th and 7th grade parents and students who are interested in playing football next year. We are making plans for next year's middle school team. If your son has any interest in participating next year PLEASE make plans to attend. If you cannot attend please contact Coach Lee at [email protected] prior to the meeting so that we can include your child in our numbers.
ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS

Second Semester Headmaster and Honor Roll Lists
Congratulations to those Middle and Upper School students who earned either Headmaster's List or Honor Roll recognition for their 2nd quarter grades.  Students qualifying for the Headmaster's List earned a 90 or above for the quarter in all subjects with no grade below an 85.  Students on the Honor Roll earned an average of 85 or above for the quarter in all subjects with no grade below an 80. 


Crichton Optimist Club Recognition
Congratulations to junior Matthew Mowry who was the recipient of the Crichton Optimist Club's Football Scholar-Athlete Award for St. Luke's.  Matthew was recognized at the club's annual banquet at Heron Lakes Country Club.

Hi-Q Wins First Match
Congratulations to our HiQ team who kicked off their season by winning their match against Vigor High School and Satsuma High School this week.  Team members are seniors Ella Johnson, Kane McCreadie, Andrew Ravine and Andy Sykes and juniors William Brandyburg, Tristan Clarke, Hardy Demeranville, Lincoln Hammons, Madison Hoke, Nicholas Myers and John St. Cyr.   
IN THE NEWS
Don't forget to watch WKRG News next Friday night at 6pm.  Senior Kate Symons, a senior BioMed III student who wants to become a research scientist, and her program mentor Dr. Prakash, will be featured in a special assignment by Channel 5's Devon Walsh.  Dr. Prakash, a research scientist at The Mitchell Cancer Center was featured in Mobile Bay's 40 Under Forty Issue and mentioned her work with St. Luke's!  Channel 5 picked up the story from there....

Mark your calendars now and get ready to have some fun!  Plans and preparations are already well underway for our 2017 draw down! The all adult evening includes food and beverage, fun, surprises and everybody walks away a winner!  Keep an eye out for details and share them with your family and friends..the more the merrier. 


ATHLETICS

BASKETBALL-SENIOR NIGHT 

Our boys and girls varsity basketball teams are wrapping up their regular seasons but you still have opportunities to watch them play at home!  The teams will play Chickasaw on Tuesday (girls@6:00/boys@7:30) and will play their last regular season game on Friday January 27th (girls@5:00/boys@6:30).  It is also SENIOR NIGHT so join us between the games as we recognize our awesome seniors!

YDL (3rd-6th Grade) SOCCER AND TRACK REGISTRATION

The registration deadline for YDL Soccer has been moved to Tuesday, January 24th @ 7pm .  We have pushed it up in order to declare teams, create schedules and reserve fields by the league deadline. Please be sure to regsiter by the deadline.  Co-ed teams will be formed if necessary.

TRACK
YDL track registration is open until January 26th.
