HAPPY NEW YEAR!

It is that time of year when a lot of people make their new year's resolution. I can always see the effect at my gym in January because my circuit fitness training classes double in size!  As usual, by mid-February most of the newbies (resolution makers) have left.  Why is that?
Instead of making a new 'resolution' this time every year, I like to think of it as my continual 'evolution'.  In order to continually evolve into whom we want to become, we must be passionate about our goals in life, commit the time, and have the proper mindset.
For example, I love going to my circuit fitness training. It's part of my daily life.  I believe I've been successful in my attendance partially because of the monthly financial commitment I've made. Paying dues encourages me to show up regularly for an hour at least 3 to 4 days a week. It also helps that I have competent trainers and am committed to being healthy.
In my experience helping people with their retirement plans, I find our best clients have that same commitment to succeed.  It requires time, money, and the right mindset to secure their financial comfort.  I am passionate about adding clarity to their lives and helping them along the way as their lives evolve.
I thought I would share the things I plan to do this year that will help me continue to evolve into the person I want to be (keep in mind that many of these I do almost every year):
  • Add value to the things that are most important to me; my family, my clients, my friends, and my causes
  • Go to the gym at least three days a week
  • Continue to go to my improvisation class and perform 3 times annually
  • Continue to advance in my profession by continually learning new things
  • Stay involved in professional committees
  • Accept public speaking engagements at CPA, financial planning, and legal profession conferences
  • Travel to at least one new place
  • Pay for my daughter's wedding on January 21st (this is a one-time deal!)
I look forward to another successful 2017!

To your massive success!

"It wasn't on my calendar. "

Most people do not plan for a medical, mental or aging crisis for a parent-or themselves, and if such a crisis is not on your calendar, prepare now. None of us know what we don't know, and when a loved one's health and/or mind are failing, this is no time to have a crash-course in learning.

  • Who do I turn to for advice?
  • What kind of questions do I ask?
  • Do I plan a loved one's care for this immediate crisis-or make a plan that includes future needs as conditions worsen?
  • How do I respond to the many needs: place to live (kinds of facilities), care (who provides and what kinds), costs (and how to pay them), and advisors (finding the right people to handle finances and elder planning).
If you have more questions than answers, this first-hand guidebook, written by a CPA/ financial planner about his dad's situation, will provide answers. Now you will be able to deal with your own situation with more knowledge and focus.
